Congrats!!

Welcome aboard.

Take a few minutes to read through posts in Tech / Owners Forums on new ownership

There are some idiosynchrasies that GTs have that most car guys dont know

-First gear is a hard rachet to left off center; many think 3rd gear is first
-2nd gear can grind till warm
-Cold tires slip, and can lead to accidents...ie, <50 degress, OR early morning runs, dew, fog, sand, debris, gravel on road
-Make sure your car has the OEM Ford battery charger and plug it in lighter socket if not using weekly, and let cord over rubber seal and close door
-Ground strap from battery can loosen and cause issues (check engine light, not starting, stereo inop, etc); just make sure its tight with 10mm socket
-Gently insert gas nozzle in filler and hold trigger half till full; dont top off or lock nozzle and leave in place to stress filler neck
-Find a local Ford Dealer with a GT trained Tech or ASE Master Tech to do your service
-OEM accessories: make sure you have OEM charger, car cover in duffle, owners manual/leather case, two keys, window sticker or GT Authenticity Kit with Window Sticker and certificates, etc. (all of these can be ordered).

Main advice is to take some leisurely cruises in areas you know till you get feel of GT and can practice limits and even parking.

Most owners just push start button for last 8+ years with flawless performance.

All of this and unless the door is ALL THE WAY OPEN duck when you get out :)

He will whack the back of his head the first time he reaches inside for something he forgot and stands up. It's a rite of passage. It may even happen twice. After that, it won't happen again. Muscle memory is your friend.

Welcome to the greatest forum, for the greatest car ever made. You are in for the ride of your life.

Ecentric, I've gotten in and out of countless thousands of GTs. I still whack my head from time to time. You do learn to duck, but you tend to forget from time to time.

Great advice. I did hit my head twice. I think that the more you hit you head, the more likely you'll forget in the future.

In addition to all the other recommendations, let me add this: Cup holders. Seriously.

If you plan to drive this car (and I drive mine, 28Kmi and counting), eventually you WILL want to take something to drink with you. Coffee, cold soft drink, even just water. There is no place to store or set anything in the cockpit, so you will need something to stick your cup into. Even a cheap holder with a bean bag base that you can set on the floor under your right knee works wonders. BTDT.

Definitely thumbs up on the clear film paint protector, on the front and leading surfaces, and the wheel arches and rocker panels. Stillen mud flaps help a lot too.

But after you get it fully inspected, just drive the damn thing. It's a car, and the most fun one I've ever driven. It's the last of its kind--a car that you manually operate and control without all the automatic electronic wizardry. If you can turn a hot lap or power slide the car around a corner it's because you learned and executed it with the sensors in the seat of your pants and your cerebral synapses, not with a computer looking over your shoulder. It's also surprisingly comfortable for a racing seat. Get out and be seen in it (I hope you're an extrovert, because you won't be able to avoid talking to people about it). As my byline says, cars are for driving. If you want art, get something to hang on the wall!

It has come to my attention that a couple people are wondering what happened to this post:

"Before you drive the car another foot, have a sheet of protective film installed on the windshield. 'Reason?
If you ever need to replace the windshield, the front fenders have to come off the car to do that job right.

'Dead serious."

Short answer: I deleted it!

Why? That's a longer story:

I posted the comment...then decided to make some additions...that morphed into editing it a LOT...so, for various reasons, I decided to just delete the O.P. for simplicity's sake and make a whole new post. I then composed 'same. 'Went back to post my 'revision' and noticed that Tony had already referenced the now deleted O.P....so, rather than posting what was to a great degree a 'repeat' of my earlier post, I just said 'screw it' and left things as they were rather than make a post that was 'out of sequence', if you will.

An' dat's all whut went down thar, muh bros... :biggrin

Where da hell did you get Pocket's post.....I don't see it in the thread.

As mentioned, he deleted it himself. This happens frequently. In a different thread on the same day, three successive posts were deleted by the same user. Nobody else sees it, but when a user deletes his own posts, I see it as the below. That's just an FYI because I know there are people that think "why did that post get deleted?"

Must be old age setting in on EP, or a case of probably dysmnesia caused by excess fumes over the years from car wax due to his known driving habits

How does one delete a post, Dave? - we used to have a button to delete in the Go Advanced Edit section but I haven't seen it for quite awhile.

The "Delete" box is right beside the "Go Advanced" box. It's pretty evident I should know.

That's funny - I only have "Save," "Go Advanced" and "Cancel" buttons. Do Mark IV Lifetime's get more options than Mark II's?

Some forums don't let posts be deleted but the author can go in and edit it to null (or something like "oops").

Some forums don't allow editing after a time period, e.g., after one day the content is locked. I disagree with that since one frequent use is to use the original post as a "census" (as is frequently done here).
