I thought I had the more light than anyone, but you have me beat. I have 48 T8 4" bulbs in a 600 sqft room. I did this 12 years ago, if I were to do it today, LEDs!

That's very respectable! 48 T8's in 600 SQ FT is very high intensity indeed! We're just over the top...and as I always say, "Go big or go home!"

2800 SQ FT...now that's a nice size garage and I understand now why 13 fixtures aren't enough. You'd need at least 3 -4 times that in the T5's if not more, to get operating room lumens...and those fixtures disperse more light to the ground the higher up they're placed...like a minimum of 12' of height to get good, uniform light to the ground. 6 bulbs / fixture does eat quite a bit of power however.

This is what I'm using now in my new garage (in white) - all LED. $$ but well worth it. My buddy is a partner in this outfit and I get all the neatest stuff from him before they come to market.

Mine are not listed for some reason, but the unit is identical, except there are 100 LED's / panel and I'm putting down 20k lumens / panel. I used 13 panels IIRC for 1110 SQ ft . You actually cannot look directly at the light; they're that bright! I flush mounted mine - they come with the 5" extended frame kits but can be flush mounted if desired. The panels are 120 watts each, as opposed to 320 in a 6-bulb T5 configuration, but the LEDS generate more ambient light with an overall better dispersion, and no heat. They're sealed units - so no dust gets in to them either.

In my new garage, I'm using 6061 T6 x .187 mill finish aluminum which were laser cut into 6' x 24" tiles, to be placed in a staggered brick style over all the walls, with grouting. I think the pallets came in at 4400 LB's of weight in total.

Once the garage is done, I will definitely post pictures!

Those should be sweet- wish I had thought about LEDs! The staggered aluminum tiles is a terrific-sounding idea, too. As incredible as your last garage looked, it sounds like this one is shaping up to be even better.

I hope...because it's always supposed to be better than the last time - or not. LOL

I need to get the garage door tracks raised and possibly relocate the opener.
Boom! That project is done. Gained 18".IMAG0447.jpg

Hey Gary, so where is the motor for the far garage door. If it is on the side, I can't see it. I may do something like that with mine if I put a hoist in. Your garage is looking great.

Thanks Rick! The motor is at the top left of the door opening. The upper right corner of the yellow art is pointing to it. It's called a jack shaft opener. wwabbit and a few others taught me about it. There are closer pics further back in this thread.

I need to put an outlet box near the opener to get rid of the dangling power cord.

Thanks. I see where it's at now. Cost? I assume you had a garage door company do it, or did you do it?

Looks great Gary. Plenty of height for a lift. Must be the week for garage projects. My garage a/c should be finished tomorrow.

Garage door company. Not much change back from a grand.

A/C is obviously preferable, but I missed being able to open the doors on summer evenings because of the bugs. So...

For what you will pay for the screens, you should really consider a/c. I am getting a 2 1/2 ton split system (heat pump) installed for about $4,500, with a custom made, diamond plate supply plenum. I've lived in Florida since the 1970s, and it's just too humid during the summer. I don't mind the heat so much, but the humidity kills me when I work in the garage. Maybe I am just getting old.

I don't mind the heat and humidity as long as the air is moving. My first summer in FL was no worse than DC. Better, in fact, because I now have a pool. I like open doors. I don't like bugs indoors. BTW, I'm amazed at how pathetic the lift mfg websites are. Both Rotary and Bendpak suck. I guess you have to know more about their products than they are willing to tell you. P.S. I have no idea what a supply plenum is, but diamond plate sounds good. ;)

It is the vent that will blow out 65 degree, bug-free air. I am turning into a real Diva. I put my cars on the lift just to check the air in the tires. Give me a call and I will give you info on some lifts.

He's probably using the Liftmaster 3800 series jackshaft motors! They're DC motors and fully adjustable for travel. Can't buy a better setup - I have 'em on all three doors and they're silent motors with no chains or pulleys...not expensive either. I'd never buy anything else.

The plenum (what I call the air handler, with condenser inside) for my home is in the garage. Maybe I can just add some ducting, vents, and thermostat and make the garage zone 4 of the home A/C/heat pump system.

I don't recommend that. While I know you are smart enough not to get yourself killed via carbon monoxide poisoning, you will get all the garage fumes, odors, etc., in your house through the duct work. There are some great mini-split systems which are easily installed. This will give you a separate system just for your garage.

Here is a picture of the diamond plate supply plenum on top of my air handler:
