As an addendum to my day hanging with Mark and Scott, this morning before I went over, Mr. Transporter man dropped me off this:

8730512878_2743fb53fd_c.jpg

Yes, I committed sin and traded a GT for something else to try out for a bit. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for one of these in the right combo to come around. White with dark wheels, red calipers, all stealthed out, carbon fiber everywhere. That'll do it.

I'll have more to say later but my first impressions are these:

  1. Wow this thing is fast. Like, fastest "stock car I've ever driven by a long shot" fast. FikseGTS' drag race videos do the car justice. It feels like it'd run 10.50@134.
  2. The car sounds awesome. It's a very unique growl. It has the sport exhaust.
  3. Love the interior. Right mix between race car and daily driver.
  4. Really like the way it looks in person. It's pearl white and for the brief period the sun was out the car looks amazing. Overcast condition in the pic totally washes it out.
Inevitably people compare it to the 458. I've spent quite a bit of 458 seat time and I think it's a toss up. The only thing I can say is a for sure victory for the 458 is the transmission. That car is defined by it's explosively fast shifts in race mode. You think about pulling that paddle and it's already shifted. That's not the case with the MP4. The rest is all subjective. They both sound awesome, the MP4 is very noticeably faster, looks are matter of choice. I think the majority of the 458 is better looking, but I really like the MP4 rear. Looks like a race car. Can't go wrong at all with either. After the 2013 update though, wow does this thing get out of it's own way! Makes me scared to think how fast the P1 is going to be. Yowza.

I'll get some killer pics when the sun comes out next in our ongoing 54*, 77*, 46*, 83* cycle.

LOL. Let me clarify, I want one IN ADDITION TO MY GT! Can't wait to hear your long term impressions. I hear it does shift fast (faster) once you get used to the precog routine.

Congrats. You'll love it once you've got some seat time. We've been comparing (like everybody does) with the 458 but it really can't put up with the mp4.
You'll prpbably hate the electronic gremlins,Nav not working properly, phone connection,... But in the end of the day the only thing that counts is the fun you can have with it.
The wife loves it as well as , in comfort mode, the boops toss less.

0-60 in 2.8 seconds, on the street.... with RWD, I took out full bolt-on GT-R running E85 the other day from a dig on the street, he had no idea what was coming...

Love this car. Wow is it quick! Just an absolute rocket that seems even faster because it's so docile under regular driving. You can also tell this is a very, very light car. McLaren is definitely not bs-ing on their weights the way the Italians do. I think once McLaren has a few years of production cars under their belt, they will command quite a following because this is just a phenomenal ride. Really like the total package and if you're into the whole racing history or British cars, it's definitely the choice.

Not many people know what it is though. A guy yelled "What is that?" I said "A McLaren." He says "A Clarion?" I guess he thought the head unit business was going so well they thought they'd take on the whole car :lol

Pearl White Paint. McLaren has the best factory paint I've ever seen.

"Do you have any wheels in the order book that are shaped like d****?"

Once you see it you can't unsee it. Thanks.

The McLaren does has beautiful paint. I am surprised though by the panels gaps on the McLaren, and the 458 for that matter.

How does it compare to your dad's 458?

Yup. I've done that to a few people.

For me personally, I prefer the MP4. The 458 is a phenomenal car, and if I lived in a place with a winding mountain road nearby, I might change my tune, but the McLaren is just more my style overall. 458 has a better transmission and I think it feels better sorted out, as if Ferrari has been doing it forever. And the interior smells wonderful. McLaren seems meaner to me. It may not be as pretty but it has a mission, and that mission is to go very, very, fast. There's also something to be said for the crushing disparity in speed. I find it strange I've never read or seen a review where they mention that the McLaren is just much, much faster. I can't bring a mountain road to Detroit, but I can put the pedal down any time.
