I am flipping through the current AutoWeek issue and happen upon a book preview. One of the books they are reviewing is 'Motor City Dream Garages'.

On the cover is a White w/Blue Stripe Ford GT, and I'm a wonderin'......is this DBK's hideaway???? :biggrin

Its a great book to buy... I've got to see about getting an autographed copy. A few friends have their garages featured it the book :) One of my favorite's is the owner of Autometric collision's collection... everything from a Mini, to a 1930's Scarab, a Zephyr hot-rod, a 275 GTB, Shelby GT350, Jag E type.. and so much more.

There are a number of other collections I'm familiar with that make it in the book too.

.........yeah...but I'm still wonderin' if the garage on the cover is of our intrepid Mr. DBK!? :biggrin

nthfinity - I have all the confidence in the world to say "if you think that this book is worthwhile...it must be!" Your photographic skills are FANTASTIC! This book has made my Christmas Wish List.

As an aside, when I was growing up in Detroit, some of the Detroit car collections I saw are legendary still to this day. I remember some honcho's bringing their rides out to Woodward Ave. just to have a go with some of the local talent...and they were expensive toys back then ('60's - '70's). I am hoping that some of them have made this pub.

Detroit Muscle baby...(can't you just hear WRIF in the background playing 'Night Moves'?).

First off, a big thankyou :)

Would you believe that "big daddy Arthur P" is still chugging along on the WRIF? He's got to be getting close to 40 years now at the station!

I'll make some calls tomorrow, and find out about getting some autographed copies if people are interested.

Best

Your second to last shot is ethereal. I can almost see myself there.

My copy of 'Motor City Dream Garages' just showed up. Excellent pics I must say.

Out of the 20 garages profiled, 5 garages have at least one GT in it. 4 garages have the new GT's, and one fellow is fabricating his own GT40, while at the same time restoring an original GT40 (I haven't checked, but at first blush it appears to be the black GT40 #2 that was the first to cross the finish line).

Of the GT owners, they profile Jack Roush (who has several in his stable) and our own intrepid 'Mr. Kip Ewing'! Schweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet garage bud!!

Another garage of particular interest is GM's Heritage Center. They picture several of GM's show/design studies.

Nonetheless, this is one cool book.

Okay, I'm gunna reveal a prejudice I have and say those 1st 3 photos show my idea of what a REAL garage looks like! THERE'S ACTUALLY REAL GARAGE "STUFF" stacked here & there! It looks like there might actually be real mechanic's WORK dunn in dat place!:thumbsup :cheers

The black GT40 in Jim's garage is an original GT40, but is NOT the car it appears to be. The car is actually GT40-P/1032, which Ford had painted up to LOOK like GT40-P/1046 (the black #2 car that won LeMans in 1966). Ford then sent it around "on tour" with the "COBRA Caravan" to dealers and shows around the country. They eventually donated it to the Indy 500 Museum in Indianapolis. At the race in LeMans in 1966, this car was wearing number "4", bronze paint, and DNF'd.

The original P1046 is owned by a friend of mine (who has a red 2006 GT to drive on the street) and is on display at The Shelby American Collection in Boulder, CO.

Jim is restoring P/1032 for the Indy 500 museum - it will likely sport a different racing livery scheme when completed.

regards,

Jeff

Thanks for the clarification CobraJeff. It is really a very nice book. I like how they have a little bit of something for everybody.

I have to say, it is pretty nice to see the Ford GT/GT40 so well represented...let alone considering that the focus is Detroit.

#1032 Restoration

Yes, we are restoring #1032 to it's prior glory when it last ran at the 1966 LeMans race. It will feature the identical livery it had at the time - Emberglo (1966 Mustang color in fact) paint (sort of a copper color) with dayglo green markings. No one likes the green but it's a must. Mark Donahue and Paul Hawkins last drove it. :banana

A definite "MUST SEE" in any car buff's life... The GM Heritage Collection.

I had a private invite to see the collection last Friday... it is always a fluid collection as cars are coming and going all the time. In 6 months, you might see 40+ cars that weren't there before!

There were to chassis made, and two bodies made to my knowledge

one was a aurora v8 with the longtail that ran at Bonneville @ 180 some mph, and a turbo inline 4 with 850 hp that ran 260 some mph .... driven by AJ Foyt... and really the car only fits him :p

this one is the short tail version... 1987 :)
