I'm curious what other GT Brethren' are planning on attending any events during Monterey Car Week | Pebble Beach Concours?

I'll be there from Monday, Aug 15 - Monday, Aug 22. And as of right now, I'm planning on the drive from Monterey to Rally 6 with GT JOEY and joining others along the way from NoCal.

GT JOEY - I'll PM you back with some recommendations for accommodations (if avail). In the mean time, you and others can check out all of the events and other information at:

http://www.monterey-carweek.com

I'm considering hosting a happy hour for GT Guys if there are enough of us there. If not, then GT JOEY and I will have a couple beers or glasses of wine over stories of his trip and checking out the new carbon fiber parts on the JOYRIDE GT.

DBK - Is Camilo going this year?

I'll be at the track (Laguna Seca) from Wednesday afternoon through Sunday, in the paddock crewing for Stan Rinne's Lotus 23 (#66), which races on Saturday.

i am going from Wed 8/17 to Sunday 8/21. i am staying at Ventana Resort in Big Sur (about 45 min south of Monterrey). i waited too late to get a room at one of the hotels where auctions are being held (RM, Mecum). And i choked on how much the small hotels were charging. so i decided to stay out of Monterrey at a nice resort. that way, my SO can enjoy the spa if i decide to run off and watch cars all day !

Hello AZSTAD, I'm suppose to be in Monterey for this event, but things may change at the last minute. The Historic event has Jaguar as the Marque and my father-in-law and I have been working on a D-Type Jag recreation that is 100% to spec to take to the event. The car is done and looking great, but he's not doing well. He has been in and out of the hospital over the past few weeks. We still have the event on the books but playing it day, by day. I'll keep you posted as we get closer to the date. I'd love to catch up with you.
Regards, Marc

Marc - sorry to hear that. And after all of that work - that's a bummer. Oddly enough I just got off the phone with my dad and he just informed me he's going in for surgery on the morning of Fri, Aug 19. I'm still going to Monterey Car Week, but may have to go help shortly thereafter to help with recovery...and what's the week after?...Rally 6! Anyway, all the best with your father-in-law. Let me know if you do make the trip.

Does anyone have a preference for day/time to get together for some drinks in Carmel? I need to check my itinerary to see myself.

GT JOEY - I'll post on the other thread, but I may 'bow out' from the Rally to the Rally (Monterey -> SLC) given the mentioned above. Having said that TeamJeff may take my spot in the JOYRIDE GT*. (Yet to be confirmed).

I know this might sound like a strange question, especially since I live in Northern California. I have never attended this event and possibly it is because I do not really understand what the event is. I see the Laguna Seca track events and the Concourse at Pebble beach. I have always wondered if they are seperate events or are they concurrent events? If a first timer were to go what would be the recommended events to see?

Kevin - You can learn an awful lot by visiting a site that JOYRIDE put together at www.monterey-carweek.com

But I'll give you the synopsis from my point of view...
1. ANYONE whom is into any type of classic cars, very rare cars (new and vintage) and exotics would be in heaven at Monterey Car Week.
2. Pebble Beach Concours de Elegance is the "Superbowl" of concours - worldwide.
3. 30+ Events have surrounded the PB Concours over the years - ranging from vintage/historic racing a Laguna Seca, to the coveted tickets to Quail Lodge show (by luck of the draw only), to the Italian beauties at Concorso Italiano, to 6 or 7 auto auctions that save the best every year for this week.
4. Events run concurrently - so usually I will pick something for the day and one or two for the evening.
5. Many go up for the shows and never see the races. Many go for the races and never see anything else. Auctions are a plus, plus, plus. *A very rare Ferrari Testarossa, owned by Jon Shirely, will be auctioned this year and is rumored to bring in $20M+.
6. Many manufacturers debut their hottest every year at this event...recent years was the new Bugatti Super sport, McClaren, Fisker Karma, SLS and so on.
7. Plan early...everything is 'taken' and expensive. Many people book their 'standing' hotel reservation for the following year as they're checking out. Hotels can easily run $600 for a standard room, with a 4-5 night minimum. You'll pay $300 per night for a Super 8.

Everyone should attend this at least once. Just driving around, you'll see Ferraris, Porsche, Lambo's, vintage everything...everywhere. Lining the streets and for miles coming and going from the events.

If you decide to come down...let us know!

Thanks for the info. Since this is the weekend before we go to Utah, I am not sure if I can make it. Having said that I could make a long day trip out of the event, just to see what is going on in Monterey.

I will be in Monterey from the 8/17 thru the 8/21 showing our Venom GT at the Gordon McCall FBO event on the 17th and then having the car on display at the RM Auction at the Portola Hotel from 8/18 thru
8/21. At this time I am not sure if I will have my Ford GT in Monterey since my two car trailer is currently in Texas.

Is anyone else planning on attending the Gordon McCall event at the Monterey Airport
FBO?

All GT Owners - JOYRIDE will be hosting a reception on Saturday, Aug 20 from 3pm to 6pm in downtown Carmel, which you are officially invited to.

Many attendees may be from the Copperstate 1000 (vintage road rally) and the Peterson Auto Museum CF200. We'll be showing some cool video footage we shot during the 4 day, 1,000 miles vintage road rally. And there will be food, wine, beer and great views.

PM or email me if you want the PDF invite or map info.

DGCA - I would like to come to the McCall's event, as it's certainly a great scene every year, but I have a dinner obligation right in the middle of the evening. So not sure if I'm going to make it if I can only go from 5pm-7pm?
