I wanted to find out everyones thought on a stripe color changed GT, which would be the only modification. You guys might know this car, its the black and gold GT. I am thinking in this case the value would be unaffected. This GT has 7k miles.

Some consider any paint work as diminish value.

Regarding value - Looking at the old classics, it appears the more original the more value. I read about that car and it was very interesting to me the owner painted a gold stripe to match his other hertz cars. Not my style but maybe it looks great in person. It's in the mother's ad right? I would say that one is better than not having one but would be less than a stock one. Your potential buyers in the future would have similar questions if you were to sell. In the past, I have bought modded cars just to be able to get one...

At least a $5K hit. Even if you plan to keep the car forever, you can argue that non-originality immediately reduces the pool of potential buyers. And any potential buyers will use the same rationale on you if you try to sell.

With a black car, no stripes at all might actually increase the value.

All mods, changes, upgrades affect the values. Some positive $$ but most eventually are negative $$.

Buyingy a "correct original" for a museum collection is one thing, but buying such a vehicle for any other usage (other than market speculation) seems to be a moot point .

Choose wisely and enjoy the heck out of it.

Keep in mind that the GT is a great car that was designed and built to be driven.

I don't give out too many brownie points for how many times a car was "not washed with water" or how many times it was detailed nor how many sundays you drove/trailered it to a car show or cars and coffee or if in California "cars and croissants". I'm a "drive it to Dunkin donuts" guy.

I do give out triple word score points to those that have driven 500+ non-freway miles in a day. At least 3-4 days in a row. Preferably on twisty windy 2 lane country or mountain roads. And double word score points to those that have found out first hand that the GT has anti-lock brakes! Hint - you really have to push the pedal very HARD.

In the long run the stripe color certainly doesn't make the GT less enjoyable. And as was mention for a few $$ you can change it to any color you wish.

...........how many times a car was "not washed with water".

I hav seen this on several listings. I know a bit about cars and detailing but have never understood why it was better not to wash a car. Can someone explain? Does it hurt the car to wash it with deionized (spotless) water?

If memory serves, is there not a clear coat over the factory stripes so there are no "ridges" between car color and stripe color? This would be much harder to do than just applying stripes. I have no top stripe so I can't check mine. Definitely would affect resale, Shelby at Elite would probably have an answer as to an amount. If the cars hits the right buttons for you and it's in your price range, go for it. Just know that if you decide to sell, it will be an obstacle.

Good luck!

The "celebrity" status of the car, having been in magazines, could be of value to some. Again, the worst case scenario is that you paint it back to original. If it's in your price range, go for it! Enjoy....
