I'd like to attend one, but don't really want to make a long road trip out of it..

Aside from an illegal freeway pull (not that i'd ever do that..), anyone hear of events near the phoenix area?

I think you are closer to the Mojave mile than I am in Northern California, that one might work for you.

I often wondered the same thing. If there was an event close by and the car was south of the border I would potentially be interested. I think there is a few people who bring the cars down; maybe some interest there as well...

Steve, you should run your car down in Mojave. You'll probably get to go faster than we did at RTB, and because it's not tied up with a mega charity donation, the cost to run is SIGNIFICANTLY lower. And you'd get to meet Tom (Skyrex) who is super awesome, maybe get Kendall (Nota4re) to tune/tweak your car a bit, and just generally have a GREAT time with a bunch of GT lovers.

Oh, and you'd DEFINITELY get to speeds over 200 MPH, legitimately. :driving: When you taking your car down again? :thumbsup

I hope to arrange transport in mid December for it. Depends on availablity etc with the transport company.

I looked at the Mojave mile and it looks awesome and seems to have a lot of people excited!! I am just not sure I can commit to being there. It would be good to get together and meet some of the people that have posted the great stories and advice. I would be asking a lot of stupid questions of the more experienced, however I am not sure there is a stupid question at over 200 MPH....

As far as a tune/tweak goes; I have been mulling it over in my mind over the last few weeks....watch your email, I had a couple questions.

I appreciate the suggestion.. but don't want to make a 1000 mile round trip out of it. I'm limited by my work hours and limited time with the family as it is, and am not going to burn my marriage credits like that. Wish the wife was more into the GT, but to her it's an "point A to point B" overpriced toy.

Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista south east of tucson had a mile race a lil over 5 years ago at the military airbase there. the corvette club of tucson put it on. the runway is ~ 4500 above sea level though....

another option would be Pinal airpark which is between Tucson and Phoenix and is ~ 1500 above sea level

the runway in Sierra Vista is in pristine condition but the one at pinal is not as good.

there are also 2 more options in the Phoenix area and 2 more in southern Arizona....

It won't be a 1000 mile round trip - a little over 800 miles. Same as us from NorCal. Build up those marriage credits now & redeem them for the GT Speed Day at Mojave. Our wives will be at the Mile so bring your wife! Maybe she'll see that the GT, & the cool people involved, are not that bad.

Have been traveling and just noticed this thread. If anyone needs help in shipping their car to Mojave or with storage until the event feel free to contact me and I will try to assist you. We have a limited number of slots available. Taking nothing away from the other venues that offer runway racing but the great thing about Mojave, even with the longer distances we will be running, is that there is a very long shut down area. It is very easy on the car and braking is not an added nerve wracking stress like it can be at some of the shorter venues.

There were actually a few Canadians at the regular event in April........including some nut who ran a nitrous go kart to 150mph!!! :eek :lol

Also there are not a lot of opportunities anywhere to run longer that 1 mile. With the limited field of 30 (or less) there is also as many runs as you could possibly want. I organize these because I like to drive fast in a safe fun environment. It is also great to see people bang out 200mph for the first time and set new personal highs for those who have hit 200 before. :thumbsup I am looking forward to getting together with everyone in April......especially those crazy guys from NoCal. :cheers

By the way.....coming from Phoenix you make it into a very fun road trip. Take your GT and signigficant other to Vegas for a couple days before the event, drive the 200 miles from Vegas to Mojave and have the time of your life, then hit Vegas on the way back to Phoenix for another layover to celebrate your accomplishments. I will be heading directly to Vegas after we finish driving on Saturday myself. See you there. :wink

As an illustration of my earlier comment... yesterday was the wife's bday... So i'm telling her "hang on a minute while i get the GT out of the garage."

She's like "nah. lets just take the audi."

me--"eh? no, it'll just take me a minute to back out"

her "nah. the audi is fine. lets take the audi"

my daughter-- "are you nuts mom?"

her---"i said i want to take the audi. let's get going"

me---"sigh"

Meh. Conversation repeated itself 2 days ago when we went out on "hot date night." Ended up taking the NSX, and then only because i made sure to park it in front of the driveway, so i'd have to move it first to get to any other vehicle.
