:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsupBecause, "You can't drive money". Love that quote from Jerry Seinfeld used in Bruce Canepa ads.
A woman that lived in my area paid Andy Warhol to do a self-portrait about fifty years ago. She paid him $1,600. That painting sold in 2011 for $38.7 million.
The Christies contemporary auction in November was a $400 million blitz. If you like racing you've probably seen Jeff Koons' BMW art car. He had a piece go at that auction for $33.6 million. Not bad for a living contemporary American artist.
Cars have a long, long way to go before they are even in the same galaxy as art. The roster of artists that bring 8 figures is very deep, and the list of 9 figure works is expanding rapidly with the explosion of wealth in Asia and the Middle East. If someone paid $250+ million for The Card Players, how do you even attach a value to the Mona Lisa? Wild.
