The power steering fluid in my car was recently changed, along with new hoses. Long ago I was told that the fluid level should be checked hot. I assume that’s correct owing to fluid expansion raising the level in the reservoir. That also suggests that if fluid is added, that to correctly measure the level, it should be when the fluid is hot. However, to measure the level, should the cap be rested on the tank lip or should it be screwed down? It does make a difference in the apparent level on the dipstick.
