Nicely done video. Car looks ballistic.

Fantastic production. Is the whistling from the turbos or an aero effect?

Wow. So just how fast was their lap?

It appears they had the track to themselves. I wonder how much that cost them.

WOW!
Just WOW!

Sounds to me like the blow off valves are austentatious! Love it.

Looks balls fast, too!

End of video says "sub seven minute"

McLaren's position is that they won't be telling anyone because they think chasing lap times under variable conditions with no verification process is fruitless.

They must have had a faster helicopter than the one they used for the Ford GT commercial, lol....

Nissan, Chevy and dodge seem to think differently.

But that is absolutely true, even down to if the car is really "stock" (not saying this about the p1)

Great vid, watched it twice.

fantastic video... almost makes me regret turning down my order :biggrin

The ring has designated mfgr test days and they sell slots. Otherwise for an organizer doing a track day it's €55k plus extras (last yrs prices).

In other words, they did not beat the 918.

You can certainly interpret it that way, though I find it hard to believe. The car looks like it is absolutely flying and has race car specs.

I think McLaren's current stated position is definitely the right one, but Ron Dennis was way too loose throwing around the "oh we're gonna beat all these records" stuff. It definitely looks like they aren't stating a time for a reason after all that.

It does look fast in the video. I just do not understand the need to say it is under 7 minutes, as it seems contrary to their position on lap times. If they want to take the stance that manufacturer times are unregulated and therefore meaningless, then same goes for their under 7 minutes claim.

IMO - Nurburgring is more than an OE engineering playground/test facility. Mfgr's might be publicly downplaying the importance, but many are there to earn credibility for their respective product/brand. e.g. I believe Chevy's continued interest in the Ring will eventually draw in Ford, whether Ford wants to go there or not. Always best to do things under your own terms, rather than on someone else's. You can argue about the validity/repeatability all day long ~ just like who should have won the last race at Indy.

Bring your best chassis engineer, sticky tires and let the games begin :biggrin

Classic Brit mentality. "mine is bigger than yours, but I won't show you mine until you show me yours first" or something like that. if they beat the 918 then it was not by a big enough margin for the boys in Woking to feel that their number is safe. And they may be waiting to see what number Ferrari puts out. But that point is likely to be moot as Ferrari will sell every LaFerrari regardless of what the car runs around the Ring. P1 is getting great reviews from the likes of TopGear. So just state the number whatever it is.
