Mclaren 650s thoughts?

Any former Mclaren 12c owners upgrade to the 650S? If so, I am curious how they compare?

I am wondering if the 650S is really that much better? Hard for me to believe that an extra 30 hp or so is really noticeable.

I had a 2012 12C for about a year. Fabulous car. I like the looks of the 650S, but the massive depreciation the 12C took however has me a bit reluctant to jump back in to the Mc world anytime soon.

It's not necessarily the HP but the Torque + suspension + programming = a car that is a little bit better and a little more fun to drive. But is it worth the extra $$$ VS buying a slightly used Mac . Not really

I did. It is a better car for sure with 25 percent or more different parts. Is it dramatically better? Not really. I do like the looks much more. The interior certainly has no more room, unfortunately for me. Sounds better than my 13 did, noticeably quicker and better shifting.

On the whole, I like it better.

Driven a 650 a couple of times, definitely a better car, feels better screwed together than the 12c. IMO, its $50k better than a 12c but they wanted $150k from me to trade and there's no way its worth that! Sit tight Mitchell, you'll be able to pick up a lightly used one for under $200k within a year or so, McLaren still has its head up its butt when it comes to sales and marketing so the 650 will drop just the same as the 12c

Sort of my hope as a prospective buyer. I sold my 12C to a fellow member and took a beating on depreciation.
After a few months, oddly my wife is sort of missing it, so I started thinking about the 650S.

To quote my wife - the Volcano Red paint was the best looking she's ever seen. I may need a volcano red 650s, though I love the blue color of yours.

I swapped my 12c for the 650S but merely because I wanted a spider. The hit on the trade in still hurts after 5 months.it's a little more refined, a little better body control, a little better handling...on all points a little better but worth the $$$..I'm not sure. On the power even less then the 12c but that one had the evoms chip and 300cell cats

After 2 trips to the dealer and numerous warranty upgrades the car you sold is running better than ever. I had the chance to drive my (your) car back to back with a 650 at Sebring during a dealer event and I can say from an intermediate track drivers perspective there was little difference. Knowing Mclaren you can be sure there are numerous improvements in many aspects including NVH and fit and finish in addition to the published changes.

As usual the weak link is always the nut behind the wheel and not the car. The 12c has more capability than 95% of us can use.

Will be glad to meet you finally in Vegas

12C looks better

Not a fan of spindly, reptilian / avian nostril slits of 2000s cars (458s meme)

hopefully in this post Luca / F car world, designers will abandon "not gorgeous aerodynamics" as they get dated / tired looking instantly

I drove back to back with my 12C when at dealer. I couldn't tell much of a difference. A little with the pwr delivery. I did like the way the carbon looked on the front and back of car. I like the way the 12C looks better. But that's just MHO. My MP4 is still at dealer. Getting P13 upgrade and I added some carbon bits to it. Can't wait to get her back. Really like the Mclaren a lot.

+1 that the 12c looks nicer, the 650s side scoops look particularly awkward. Spent Saturday at COTA in my 12c, it is an insane track car, love it!

It is all subjective but having had both and seeing them side by side, to me the front of the 12 looks too plain compared to the 650. What is irritating is the "big" add ons like back up camera etc don't work worth a sh$t. More software updates.

I also prefer the look of the 12C. Not a fan of the fake vents arround the headlights of the 650S.
