Hey Guys,
Spent the last couple of days at the track, Spring Mountain by Las Vegas, where I am a member... Took the Matech Car out there but unfortunately my slicks didn't make it so I was restricted to just a couple of exhibition laps.
Car gathered a LOT of attention from Members and the POC members (Porsche Club) that were racing there this weekend...
Unfortunately I don't have any video of the run but snapped a couple of pics to post up on my iPhone...
Car is absolutely incredible and even though it was only a couple of easy laps sure felt good to be on the track in the GT!!! :banana
One thing that I wanted to gather interest on was how many members would be interested in attending a FGT event at the track.
The track is truly one of the top facilities, with condos on sight with balconies looking over turns 1 -4... a club house with spa, pool, hot tubs, fire pits, full garages to put your cars in, NO GRAVEL :biggrin, race store, mechanics shops etc...
What I would like to do is a get a quick list of members and a time frame that people would be interested and willing to commit to and then organize an informal FGT event around that... nothing like the rally, more like 3 days of track fun and camaraderie...
I am thinking about flying over Thomas for exhibition laps in the Matech car as well :thumbsup
He won't be available the end of June to come over so it would be sometime after that, and then there is the rally in August so please let me know what times everyone would be interested in...
Vegas also tends to be hot in the summer so we would have to take that into consideration... but sure would be good to get together sooner than later...
We could set up instructor sessions open track sessions and would have a lot of flexibility to arrange the track time how we would like...
Once we figure out how many people would like to be involved, I can put together costs and try and see what dates we can lock in with the track.
Check out the info below and please let me know who might want to come :cheers
Here is a quick blurb from the website
"The race track at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch is a fantastic combination of fast sweeping corners, quick esses, off-camber turns, over 125 ft of elevation change and 4 high-speed straights including our newest half mile straight. With replicas of some of racing’s most famous corners including Mosport's 5a and 5b, the Watkins Glen "Bus Stop", and Road Atlanta's turn 1, our track provides a challenging experience for every level of driver.
The race track is comprised of over 4 miles of road course with more than 20 available configurations. Originally designed as a learning tool for the Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School (now the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School), it’s the perfect environment to keep your car in constant transition. In addition to being a superb tool for our driving schools, the Spring Mountain Motorsports track is available for rent. Whether you’re a car club, corporation or institution in need of a motorsports facility, Spring Mountain is the perfect place for training, team building and pure adrenaline-charged fun."
THE TRACK: (2.9 Mile Course is basically the outside ring)
If you look mid track on the left where there is a small section that is white and the track loops off and back around... drive straight through that section instead of turning and that is the new 2.9 configuration which gives a LONG straight :banana
note as well, coming around the bottom into the long straight you can carry a LOT of speed :willy
CONDO AREA:
CLUB HOUSE AREA:
I have talked to the owner of the track, John Morris, about setting the up the track configuration for us in the 2.9 Mile setup which essentially has 4 banana) long straights....
Here are some pics of the matech car...
