MAC power harness disconnect

Thanks to previous threads, the removal of the Mac was cake.

Is there a way to disconnect the power harness from the unit without taking the thing apart? Can I cut the plastic shield and slip it out? I don't want to cut any wires since I am replacing it with another Mac unit (my CD player died).

Thanks

Where did you pick up the replacement Mac unit? Can you get one under warranty?

A Mac head unit would look so much nicer in my car than the Sanyo. I've considered replacing it. Plus the black face would go better with the interior.

FYI, the wires directly to the MAC are the pre-amp out wires that ultimately run to the amp back at the subwoofer. It is good you got them disconnected (the connector is a BIG PITA to get to), because splicing the wires and the shields would be tedious and tough to get right.

Yes, I thought you couldn't reach them without removing the lower dash!

SYCO, the wiring may be different for the mac system, since it uses a aux amp for all of the speakers, having line out only. You would need to add an amp also at the minimum.

You can get the head unit, the amp and the tweeters from Mac, just look at their website. The subwoofer is not a Mac item but , I believe, comes from Rockford-Fosgate. May be cheaper than getting from Ford. But if you don't have it, I'd certainly look at another head unit with better features. There are posts here about alternatives.

Covered under warranty. Fairway Ford in Placentia swapped me Mac unit and the switch. Had to be done before Vegas!

Thanks BlackIce and Frank for the info and advice.

Jones - that's good that you were covered and are good to go for Vegas with sound.

Another option for a black radio is the JVC KD-NX5000, the fact that it has NAV and bluetooth doesn't hurt. Here's a pic. There is a tread on the install.

I like the EJECT button.

That looks very nice Dan, and adds functionality.

You're right, if I'm going to make the change, might as well get something out of it.

Appreciate the post and the pic.
