So I got this M6 and it's a nice car but the fellas in the local M-Club keep telling me the car can go 200+ with a Dinan tune.

Given the shape of this car and the massive amount of air it would have to push... I find it difficult to believe. It only has about 510hp. I know weight isn’t a huge factor for speed but 200+?

Any physicists here that can debunk this foolishness?

They forgot to add that you would need a 140 mph tailwind:biggrin

Congrats on the new car.:thumbsup

well according to a couple of euro sites ... top speed is 193. So if Dinan tweeks it a bit ... more torque and a few other things they might find another 30-50 hp in the car.

I think 200 is possible. or at least so close ... does it really matter?

Its a sports coupe ... not a sports car. Enjoy the ride. :thumbsup

On speed TV's BMW M hour long ad, Hans Stuck drove the BMW M5 to just over 200 mph indicated speed. BMW Speedo's are also notorious for showing 10-15% OVER true speed at extreme tripple digit speeds.... hence why many M3'ers think they are going 170 mph, while others have long left them behind... I've heard this is also true in the BMW M 5 / M6

That said, sub-500 hp cars that can nudge 200 mph are the F40, 959 is very close... 530 hp Diablo's run 205+ mph... its all about gearing, power, and aero.. so I don't doubt that it can do 200 mph... but GPS verified is always a sure thing :)

The M6 is a very sweet car, congrats. My neighbor bought a beautiful black one not too long ago and was absolutely convinced the M would trounce my Heritage. So, after fairly persistent egging on, late one night we took to a very long stretch of empty highway with no on-ramps. We probably did about a half dozen runs, he finally tired and we called it a night.

Great car, though. Perhaps the best 4 door I've ever owned was the M5.

You must be on the big inland.

BlackICE, I'm on Oahu and the H3 is not a bad stretch of freeway.

Yep, they will.

BMW tested an E60 M5 without the speed governer to 205 mph.

Below is a pic of an M6 that ran 329 KPH on GPS (204 mph) in Portugal with the limiter removed.

Here is a video of an M6 at 200 mph

You need to get yourself one of these and find out for your self.
