Looking for a new ride - not having great luck

I have an FX-35 that I use just to drive back and forth to Vegas for the extra cargo space that has been perfect. I put 90K miles on it from new for gas and routine maintenance. Does have AWD, power rear gate but I don't know about the electrical extra seats you are looking for.

Looks decent and drives more like a G35 than an SUV. I would give it :thumbsup:thumbsup

The rent-a-Flex I had did not have electric third row seats, but they were very, very easy to fold down. I'm guessing the usual Ford warranty of 36/36, but look it up on the Ford website.

Buy American. My wife has a Buick Enclave.I describe that as driving a symphony on wheels. It is not 4 wheel drive, but all wheel drive.

I have 3 Ford AWD Edge Limiteds (which are in your price & spec range).
Everyone really likes these so much they prefer them to anything in our fleet.


The more boxy Flex with the twin turbo and fridge with 110VAC AWD is way cool but might be boxy for the wife.

What I like about the Flex is they eliminated the door sill and built it into the door which really makes it easy to get in and out.

If you can wait the new 2011 Explorer is supposed to be the new rage of cross over/SUV

Me........ I just ordered a new SHO AWD, one ride sold me on this nice but quick steed

Check out the Lincolns. The MKT fits your specs I believe but I prefer the MKX.

EcoBoost Ford Flex AWD, 100,000 bumper to bumper Ford Factory extended warranty for about $900 extra. If it's not a Ford, I don't buy it.

My wife has the Merc GL320. It's a nice car and I think it meets your requirements. It uses "Blue-Tec" technology to make the diesel meet the "low emissions" requirements. Be forewarned though, the technology requires a liquid be added to the exhaust system about every 10k miles. I think the additive is way overpriced right now but I suspect it will be much more affordable as aftermarket companies begin to enter the US market (they are already in the european markets).

Certified Used Mercedes GL320 Diesel or GL450...both have AWD, seat 7 and the rear seats are powered...and certified used will get you the warranty and avoid the initial depreciation.

Optional off-road package gives you a low gear.

The GL450 does it all with the exception of fuel mileage...thus the GL320 which gets great fuel mileage.

My wife's GL450 is a 2007 with 57K miles and has had very few issues.

It travels for soccer events all over the state of Texas and engine runs and shifts very smooth.
Great steering and handling with lots of room without feeling oversized...no humpty dumpty/bread truck feeling when cornering yet is a very compliant ride.

I just ordered a GL550 to replace the GL450 which will be relegated to dog hauling or other such dirty work or may become a company car for an employee.

It has been a great SUV...and I greatly dislike driving SUVs.

My wife has an '07 GL 450 with 70K on it. Great SUV. Won't hit your mileage or price targets (if new) but it'll hit every other requirement and it's a great drive. We'll also be replacing it with a GL 550.

I'm with you... why is it that Ford has such a nice line-up these days and yet Lincoln has really missed the mark on styling?

I think they have good looking cars in spite of their North American design directors. I'm gonna keep my mouth shut on names, but you can pretty much read the writing on the wall when all the cars that incorporate the European designs look awesome and all the stuff done exclusively here ends up fugly. The irony is, I'd definitely argue that something like that Taurus, which is sporting a whole lot more of the Euro Mondeo look is definitively more American looking than the previous generation was.

I can pretty much guarantee that car on the top is going to be COTY in many publications next year. I can appreciate the utility of the bottom three, but not the look. And now that I've had both the Taurus and the MKS, it's a much tougher sell to spend an extra $10k to get a comparably equipped Lincoln. I did quite like the car, and I liked the MKX's I had, but within spitting distance of their Ford cousins, needs better looks + more differentiation.
