According to my records, 5-1857 was built on 9/23/05, and 5-1836 was built on 9/12/05.

Jeff

According to Quickdraw (Harry), the build date on my 2005 #1769 was 9-26-05.
I thought the VINs increased as cars were produced...not so?

The cars were built in batches by color, not by VIN. For example, mine is 2005 #0138, but it was not the 138th car built - it was the 268th car according to the Ford Certificate (build date 11-11-04).

...which is what I remembered as being the case when I stated:

Well, that's how I remember the story, too. As to WHICH EXACT CARS were members of that 400 would be hard to figure out from their Vin #s I would think, as THOSE were all over the map in relation to "build" number and all that goofy business.

At least it appears my memory wasn't completely whacked...:willy

The rotation number is what they went by on builds, not VIN's. I would imagine that CobrJeff has a collection of rotation numbers as well. The SVT documentation packet has all this info.

Ralphie, perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree and should be looking at rotation numbers to find the switch-over point.

Good Point - but not sure - as the shipment dates and rotation numbers might only deal with a chassis once it was assigned a configuration and color. The basic chassis and suspension components may have been started in VIN number order. We probably need some help here from the factory.

Rotation number was "assigned" 1st, RIGHT in the receiving area when the chassis frame, and attached "tin" came in the door at Saleen from mayflower (right?). I remember seeing it done at Rally I. VIN came later during assembly. The rotation number is the order in which the cars were at least started (may not have finished in this order if a car needed extra attention, paint or what ever). Yes they were done in color batches, or in region batches (still color grouped), like the runs of Canadian cars. Again at rally I, the racks of dashes that were in receiving were Canadian dashes. If you see any photos of cars that have a yellow number sticker on the top center of the windshield, this is the rotation number, just remembered, I think one year was yellow, and the one was white. If I remeber, yellow was 2006, white 2005?

Rotation Numbers

I have the build date and VIN number for all 4,038 cars. I have pictures of over 1,000 GTs identified by VIN number. However, I only have 123 Rotation numbers. If you know your Rotation number, please e-mail it to me, along with your car's VIN number. Someday, this info may help us solve some intriging GT mysteries.

2005 numbers:

2006 numbers:

Does the rotation number appear anywhere else - in paperwork??

Jeff:

My Authenticity Certificate says ...5Y401857 assembled on 09/23/2005 and is #1797 of a build of 2022 and is #716 of 765 manufactured in Mark IV Red.

Is the the number 1797 the rotation number?

Ralphie -

I only have one Rotation number in the whole series of 2005 cars in the 1800 range. It does suggest, however, that the SVT number IS the same as the Rotation number.
If some more of you guys will submit to me the numbers from your SVT Authenticity report, I can try to cross-check to validate it. Thanks.

regards,

Jeff

Lots of new folks on the forum these days - they may not know what the Certificate of Authenticity is or how to get it. The Certificate of Authenticity for the FGT may not even be available from SVT anymore. Ed

Jeff, this is only going to confuse....I have VIN 1641, ROT # is 1512, the Ford SVT cert says it is #1502, and the certificate that I get from Rally #3 says it was the 1507th GT made in 2005. HOWEVER in seeing how the cars were grouped in the final QC etc, can easily see how the order would have this deviation.

As the program still exists for Shelby GT 500's I would not see any reason why you could not still get these? Might be worth the call, if you want it.
