Any helpful info before purchase on 1FAFP90S76Y401623 ?

Black 2006, 9400 miles. 3 options - no sound sys. Clean carfax, but several body panels have been painted. The owner claims the paint was keyed. The rear tires are down to wear bars. The only inspection I can rely on in such short notice is the local Ford dealer. They will do full vehivle inspection , road test, engine and trans inspection, + laser sights on the frame to see if everything is in check. Car still has 45 days orriginal warranty. Car is in So. Cal...

Anything else I should look out for? Were transaxel bolts recalled on this car?

Thanks, Tom

Unless this is under $100K, I would wait for full Professional Pre-Purchase Inspection.

Ask for paint invoices, it will detail shop, panel work, prep, and paint #.

There are plenty of GTs (20+) to rush into re-painted car, (8+ in black)

Looks like 3 owners, with last 2 putting on 6000+, 3000+ miles in under 7 months each. That sounds like an exotic rental.

If you would like to share...where is the car and which Ford dealer here in SoCal will do the review? Local GT owners here have had some type of experience with just about all the Ford dealerships, and may have a relationship that could be helpful.

There are also GT owners who service GTs professionally in SoCal that may be able to help.

The dealer can, and should with no issue, get you the full warranty history on the car. Read it carefully & ask questions! Also, I would not personally trust just any dealer to do an inspection on the GT.

Ask to see photos on the "key" damage, and copy's of the insurance report if it exists.

Good luck & please keep us posted!! :cheers

Hope you are buying it cheap with a history like that..... :frown

If its cheap enough I can see getting it, but being as its basically a 10k mile car, story car (been keyed) etc, it not something that is gonna be good for the day you re-sale it.

Another thing that puts up a RED flag for me is that its only traveled 100 miles (or less) in the past year per the carfax odometer readings. In November of 08 carfax shows an odometer reading of 9334. Why has it not been driven much at all in the past year? Maybe the paint work was to fix more than just "KEY" marks. These are just thoughts in my head when I review the carfax. Also shows 4 previous owners. May wanna share who is selling it as many people on here know or havehad experiences with many dealers that sell GTs

Thanks Shelby...the dealer is DC motors in Anaheim. As you know, I've been
searching for a car for sometime. This one fits the budget and is mostly what I'm looking for. The dealer is under a very tight deadline (tommorow) before the car moves on to somewhere else??? Also seems like a red flag...or is someone just in a duress situation and needs to get out? This one smells funny.

It's easy for me to say because I own a GT, but you say it "mostly" is what you are looking for and it fits your budget. With what Shelby just found out and what the dealer said, you may want to sit back and let this gestate a day or so. There are GTs out there "exactly" what you are looking for and will be within your budget. I would not settle for anything less...not on a car of this magnitude. :thumbsup

Just out of curiosity what is the definition of a "story"?

Paintwork. Story this guy was told, "it was keyed".
I would not consider any car that had warranty work a "STORY" car or something that pertains to a factory flaw or issue.
Generally to me (a dealer) a story car is any car that has had any previous damage, theft or he said she said stuff.

Dont be rushed into anything, dealers will always try and pressue you into a sale but unless they are willing to discount the car massively from their current asking price i would not commit to anything. Given the history of paintwork definitely make sure to have Kendall do a PPI on the car before agreeing to anything.

would go slow

There ARE pics of the damage prior to the re-painting, I'd be very wary of present seller if they don't want to produce the photos for your consideration. Don't be rushed... be fully satisfied. There's always another deal coming along.

Move to another car....

I hear you on budget...but it took some you time to make $129K.....and 24hrs is not enough time to spend it, but plenty to lose it.

Autotrader has couple cars in 4 color choices w/in $3-10K of your budget

This carfax by comparison looks like a nice 1 owner car, with scheduled service

Most, if not all major body panels have VIN number stickers on them. By inspecting the panels you can determine is they have been changed or original. That said, with so many owners of record, in so few miles, one has to be very concerned. Similar to when I see a resume where a guy has 3 jobs within the last year. I don't want any to do with him or this car.

I wold bet the car is still there tomorrow. They are telling you they have to move on this so they can close the deal. That is exactly what I would tell you if I was in their position.

I was rushed into a large boat purchase like this one time. Never again.

Agree. I wouldn't rush. The more they push me, the more I'll delay. Unless I REALLY feel I MUST have it. :wink But there's always at least a few GT's out there. I wouldn't rush into what might potentially be the 'wrong' one. :cheers
