Locked Out!! Please Help..

Hey guys.. im posting this on behalf of my uncle who hates computers but in a nutshell we were lookin at his GT today and noticed the Battery was dead and his keys are on the drivers seat... yeop!

So without having a spare set is there any exterior battery posts that we can hookup to to charge the battery or access to the battery to give it a charge?

Im clueless on this beast so if you have any suggestions please lemme know... also where IS the battery located lol sorry to sound so clueless

Forgive me if I'm reticent to hand out solutions to get into GT's without keys. :lol

I understand that but in a nutshell you gotta understand my uncle... 16 slots total in the garages.. new loaders, excavators, etc in the yard, the GT is just one of many garage warmers in the inventory... i told him id look for a tech manual online and see if we could just find out how to get to the battery without a bunch of running around calling people etc..

That is a problem with a lot of modern cars with electronics! I have a battery tender always connected to the car when parked. (where is Jay's cordless charger?) Even that isn't foolproof. The safest way to park the car to slow theft, is with the car locked and a charger connected. The safest for access, to to keep a window open so that if the battery is dead or some other electrical problem occurs you can reach in and open a door.

BTW my BWM 750 had a dead battery and wouldn't take a charge. I had to read the manual just so I could get it out of Park and release the parking brake to push it out of the garage, both electronic.

ya theres nothing online that i could find.. im just trying to find out if theres a plug for a battery tender if not, the location of the battery would be helpful since right now he's talking about taking off all the wheels to look for it.. it would just save us a lot of trouble.. i was just hoping someone here could just tell me where the battery is or at least what quadrant of the car to look for the battery would be helpful. The dealer is gonna charge us an arm and a leg i would assume. If its something simple we'd rather do it ourselves. I know owners groups are protectful about the info but in reality if we were really going to thieve a GT it would be easier to roll a tow truck up to it and flat bed it away in 2 minutes or break the glass and do whatever thieves do. We just need to know where the battery is at thats all and if we can charge it from the outside of the car.... if you dont wanna devulge any info can you at least give me "call a dealer" or "you can charge it yourself" as an answer.

battery is in the front. pop the trunk and remove the bin. Need key for that too though.

Your dealer has access to the key codes and can cut you a key. You will need ID and proof of ownership. Also, the car is covered under Roadside Assistance but I would not let somene use their "tools" to get into the car. They will damage something for sure. I would go with getting a new key cut by the dealer. It will open the door and then you can use the other key to start the car. Then reporgram all teh keys at the same time.

A slim jim won't work to pop the lock, and the newer techniques with the wedge at the top of door won't work because of the door shape. You can't get at the battery from underneath. Either find the other key and MANUALLY unlock the door, or get one from the dealer. Whatever you do, DON"T put a quickcharger on the battery cause it will boil over (it's a red top coil type) and you'll have lots of damage. You need a trickle charger over a day or two to avoid real problems.

I assume the key fob is seperate from the keys?

If they are with the keys a battery jump would not due you any good as you need the fob or key to unlock/open the door.

If the fob is seperate, you can access the battery by removing the LH front wheel and liner (splash shield) which will guve you access to the sctuator cable that releases the luggage compartment lid. Once in there are (4) qtr. turn thumb screws that will allow you to lift out the luggage liner. The battery is easily accessible under the liner.

I recommend reading the thread regarding removing the headlight as there is a tip for removing the liner without bending up the fender wheel opening flange.

Another rout once the liner is out in the event you do not have the fob available is to unplug the door harness from the IP harness located at the A-pillar. Find the two wires on a wiring diagram that power the lock/unlock or window up/down. Energize these two wires (battery from cordless drill) to either roll the windows down or unlock the door.

...some of us third grade drop outs have attached a pigtail to our battery and lead it out through the front vent on the front cover. It makes it very easy to attach the trickle charger. I use a Griots battery trickle-mainter and attach it when the car is parked for any lenght of time.
Have one attached to every car that is in storage with the battery connected.


Kendal has a great quick connect-disconnect for a charger, I would buy it, but it won't work with my Speed Lingere bra (XXXCup)


Question, won't the key in the drivers door open the door with a dead battery, I think I once had one when I first bought my GT and door open easily and I connected the battery.

two sets come with the car, the car has a mechanical door lock,....
seems like the issue should be, find the second set of keys, or go to a dealer for a duplicate,hell of lot easier than taking the car apart... duh... :bs :bs :bs

simple, call a locksmith he can pick the door or hood lock open with no damage to the car.
