The clamb is 16000 dealer cost and 21 list. This was a good deal at 85000 for the car for sure.

GOOD luck with the paint and fixing of it.

I dont see why you need to keep it original either, any buyer who cares about original paint color would be turned off immediatley by the salvage title issue but thats just my opinion.

if it were my car and i planned to keep it forever i wouldnt even waste 20k on a paintjob id just wrap it. you can always change the color in 6-8 years or whenever the wrap fails.

It is the case in Europe that owners of classic cars (of which genre the GT is certain to be included) strive for originality. Many owners of Astons (for example) spend big bucks getting back to the original color to enhance/maintain values. If a future owner of this car (and I assumed from the post that it was not going to be a keeper once restored) wanted originality, it's one less thing to have to worry about....

Although I agree with the comments about keeping the car the original color, I would love to see one in BRG. The pale blue on Camillo's 2nd GT is killer too.

how are you going to paint it, take it all apart and repaint everything or just the outside where the damage is? if youre only painting the outside then repaint same color, if not paint it any color you like! if you want to sell it someday paint it same color, if not paint it any color you like! if you do decide to change the paint this will give you an opportunity to have a truely unique gt. there are only a few cars that have been repainted totally different color than stock. im not counting wrapped cars however! but if you pick a color that is unique yours will more than likely be the only one in that color.

is it possible the car was already a salvage title car before this incident?

I would agree about one of the original race car colors, or perhaps in heritage. I think either wouldn't hurt in resale and might help. I bet DBK has thought about a few varations. Shelby and him have both done some pretty cool changes. Great deal any way you slice it.

The color change idea seems to be almost 50/50. So I have a lot of thinking to do.

The story I got on this car is that an older man (I was told 80) bought it and lost control and went through the barb wire fence. It does have the higher horsepower pulley so the accident may have happened after the upgrade. So far it looks like the parts should be less then 4,000. Unless something terrible comes up I think my 15k budget will do the job.

The more I think about it the more I think the insurance company choose the easier route to total it rather then have to deal with taking care of the repairs. And the more I think about it this is one of those great deals that happens when some one is in the right place at the right time. It doesn't happen very often.

Back to the windshield. The glass company said if the scratch can be felt with a fingernail it is no good. So it looks like it will need to be replaced as well.

I still haven't driven a GT but my buddy who has one is going to let me drive his soon. Mine is drivable but the right tire is damaged and I would like to fix it first. Judging by all of the fans of this car I assume I will like the way it drives. It should be to the body man in 2 weeks as he is on vacation.

Thanks for all of the advice and opinions

Back to the windshield...looks like it will need to be replaced as well.

Be advised that the FRONT FENDERS will have to come off to do that job correctly. If you look at where the fenders bend around the base of the "A" pillars, you'll see why. 'Would suggest you NOT have just any local Tom, Dick, or Harry who's never even seen, much less worked on a FGT do it. 'Best to have a GT expert handle it.

Where do you live? The "G.T. Guys" here on The 'Forum have done many windshield swaps and can/do go anywhere.

REPAINTING A RED CAR IS A CRIME. I think your $4K estimate doesn't include too much. Headlights are probably at least $1600 a piece by now if not more. Windshiled should be $2K plus pullijng fenders to install. The body is aluminum and not exactly easy to work with. Barbed wire, now what state has a lot of barbed wire?

I live in Springfield Illinois but I am not sure where the accident happened.

4,000 estimate is for parts and I already have that covered. It doesn't count the headlights but I believe I can buff out the scratches.

A lot of my background is in rebuilding aircraft were sometimes the parts are made of what we call unobtainium. So we have to make them. Not saying I am going to do this on the GT but the can do attitude is there to do it right. There is a kit to buff out scratches in plastic and I will give that a try before replacing them. Also helps that I bought it right.

I don't think there are any GT guys around here but I have spent a lot of time on this site researching the glass issue. The guy who will be working on the car has a lot of experience on everything from my Countach to my halftrack, which he restored for me (and a couple of my airplanes).

I am pretty comfortable with him. He is one of those guy who takes his time and is very detailed in his work. We have been friends since we were kids.

After a lot of thought and help here I doubt that I will change the color. Original option idea was to go with a modern candy color whether it be red, blue or even green. I have not seen this done and I was thinking it would certainly stand out from the crowd. Now not so sure anyone would accept the color and since I haven't even driven it yet not sure how long I will keep it.

My guess is it will be a long time. I still have my high school car I bought in 1978.

I live in Belleville. There's one other owner of a RED GT in Springpatch. He's a tuner. I met him once several years ago. Had a nice calendar of girls and his car. Several owners in Chicago and a couple in Peoria, but haven't heard from them in a while. There are a couple of cars here in So Il.

My guess is my friend is the tuner you are speaking of. My car is in his shop now and he has been helping me. He has even fixed some of the things when he got bored.

There are two other GT's here but both of them are museum pieces and never driven. One of them has never been driven since delivery. Total of 4 that I know of.

Got the cost of parts excluding the headlights 3,800.00.
