What an unexpected treat. Weather was cold and windy but thought it would be good to get outside. Jogging up to U.S. Capitol and there she was, On display all by herself. The original Bullitt mustang!
If you are in town, it is a must see.

'Had no idea that was there. Is that a more-or-less 'permanent' display...or...?

'Can't fathom why a car would be displayed on the Capitol grounds...even Steve's.

'Great that it is, though!

Cool. The Bullitt, in a bullet-proof glass case, sponsored by "Cars at the Capitol ". One of you East-coast guys should put your new GT in the glass case next !#

And it's marking it's territory!!:biggrin

Bummer! Was in DC last week but didn’t see this. (But did finally get to Udvar Hazy, which was unbelievable)

I was in DC this week and had time on my hands. Wish I knew. Great find sir!

Someone might be playing with Photoshop again.

Nope.

It's there.

Yup it’s there. Ford posted this on their email update. I had thought about cruising up but haven’t found the time. I believe it will be there for a week.

Didn't the original Bullitt lose 5 or 6 hub caps in the chase? Guess they changed the wheels. Never mind. Just checked, the Challenger lost them.

The 'Charger' lost about 5 or 6 hubcaps. :wink

...and, given the number of times McQueen shifted the 'Stang', it must have been equipped with at least a 10 speed Roadranger.

Charger, Challenger....geez.... Same thing.

Agreed 100000%

I should take the bike downtown tomorrow and check it out. A little easier to park that than a car.

The car is the subject of a segment on the CBS Sunday Morning show.

Pete, if you can, try to make it out there. I think the exhibit ends pretty soon.

Another cool part of my Bullitt encounter is how I got the picture. I didn’t have a camera/cellphone on me. But a motorcycle police officer came flying up the dirt path and started taking pictures. He said he wasn’t suppose to be there, but heard about the car and needed to see it in person. He said he is one of only 30 Motorcycle officer to the President. We had a great talk about the car and about America in general. He offered to take my photo and then he texted it to me. Really cool of him.

Since you asked...no, not at all.

'Bullitt' premiered in 1968.

The Dodge Challenger first appeared in 1970 in the pony car segment riding on the Chrysler E platform.

The Dodge Charger in the movie is a '68 and second generation Charger. Their segment is categorized as a mid-size, and rides on the Chrysler B platform.
