I have had my share of oh sh$t moments over the years and personally witnessed very talented drivers lose it. Having said that I think James is a dumb ass as a matter of general principle having nothing to do with cars.

I can't hate them for it.

I can. I'm sure alot of people have heard this before, but I was in another GT owner's car when he lost control and totaled it. We drilled a bunch of trees, left a wheel 30 feet from the car, according to Rich and Dennis the repair estimate was like $118k. It wasn't the worst wreck in the world, but it definitely sucked. I got stuffed into the tree pretty hard, and when another member of the forum that was in front of us in his car came back and was asking if I was ok, I realized I couldn't breathe because I'd had the wind knocked out of me for the first time in 25 years. Ended up not being able to run for a couple months and had a bruise the size of a grapefruit on my arm for months. I managed to crawl out through the drivers side and the first thing I see is some guy and his girlfriend in an Acura that have stopped and you know what he says? Not "Are you guys alright?" or "do you need a doctor?" or "should I call the police?" He says "Ha ha! No way!" and busts out the cell phone and starts snapping away. He had the nerve to be pissy when I asked him to just get out of there.

I'm sure this seems overly annoyed to some people, but then again, I'm the type of guy that sees TMZ or Perez Hilton on the TV and wants to put a .45 into it. This chronic obsession with people totaling their cars is just as low on the Idiocracy scale to me.

Yeah, me too. And the People and Us magazines etc. etc. I just don't get the obsession that so many people have with other people's lives. Who gives a $hit? "John slept with Mary and Joe got caught with Tom's wife, yadda, yadda, yadda." I DON'T CARE!!! The way I figure it, we've got about 80 years or so on the planet (if we're damn lucky).... and I wanna live MY life... not WATCH other people live theirs. Did I say that I DON'T CARE!!!! Rant over.

The positive aspect of seeing others mistakes is that it reminds us all of our own vulnerabilities and helps slow us down a little and use a little more caution. As you said, these are powerful cars and we need to be reminded every once in a while what throwing caution to the wind will get you.

Don't want to seem like I was flipping out on you, and I buy that theory a little. The majority of the fascination for most people (including some of our dim-witted repeat offenders on this site) is just with some other guy's shit getting wrecked.

Yup, it's like those that go to races to see the wrecks rather than appreciate the skills of the mechanics and drivers. I deal with it by not paying any attention to them. After all, we can't make anyone do exactly like we think they should act.

I am in agreement with Jer, I know that those post have definitely made me more cautious with the car.

It can certainly happen to anyone...

I also agree with being digusted by all the senseless attention to celebrity, especially the relatively recent trend in doing stupid stuff and recording it and then posting the video in an attempt to gain that 15 minutes (or seconds) of fame.

We can only refuse to watch it and encourage others to live their own lives to the fullest. :thumbsup

Chip, it was a different team member that was the 1st to crash. Mark has never crashed one, to date (knock on wood). Spins (hundreds, and on VDA's), and lots of other broken stuff during testing, but never a wreck.

Gentlemen,

The first person to lose control of a Ford GT and crash it was Mark McGowan right here in AZ on the Volvo Proving Ground test track. He showed us the site during a tour of that facility.

Agree. I get "People" at the office for my wife. I guess I am getting old but i don't know 95% of the celebs in the mag. I was in LA last weekend and my nephew, who like everyone else is trying to "make it" is friends with an actor whose wife is Emily Blount. They had all just been out to dinner. I had no idea who she was and he was shocked.
