I have not been a fan of Porsche’s side-market vehicles but that is a really good looking SUV. Let me know when your done with it.

Yeah, I hear ya, but they are good for kid duty, gear hauling, off roading, and towing (so I hear). I like the Panamera, but it's really pricey. I actually feel the Cayennes are a good relative value for everything you get.

Dark Silver was the color of my MINI. It was a surprisingly good dirt hiding color.

A protective film of dust...

I've been curious about the waterless cleaning movement, that seems popular amongst many GT'ers and car enthusiasts.

I have the detailer's spray product and micro fiber, but it seems to me, that would be bad to use if the car is too dirty or dusty. I currently use that for touch up cleaning or light dusting.

Would love more thoughts on the evils of H2O and the recommended procedures.

IMO, dust = sandpaper, grinding it into the paint vs. "floating" it off with water and soap doesn't make much sense to me. Now if you dust the car off first and use gallons of detailer, I guess it can be done in some cases, but a I find using water easier to do. Besides I don't see all of that dirt coming off with a duster. :lol

I wish it was raining really hard right now, that would be the easiest way to clean my daily driver. LOL.

I have a detailing guy that comes to detail all the cars once a week. He has detailed my cars when they were completely filthy from rain and caked on dirt. He uses a very high end waterless wash that makes the cars sparkle each time he details them...including my metallic black pickup...and no scratches. Swirls, yes, but that comes out if/ when I wax. Just my 02 cents.

I've got two kids with a black alcantara interior in the Transsyberia. I'm a little paranoid about it, but supposedly it stands up to abuse better than one would expect. I bet the silver
and cream interior looks fantastic though!

In the build process, after painting, every GT was doused with water to check for leakage. Do you think that washing with water is going to change that. Water, by itself, is not going to bother your finish one bit.

Of course, I live in the mountains where the water is pure and as close to natural as possible, whereas many of you live where your "local water" has been transported and/or may contain many salts and minerals which you wish to avoid. However, it is possible to install deionizers to remove these products, and remove your concern of your local water supply.

This is exactly what I have done Ralphie. By the way Mammoth is not just the mountains, it's one super cool mountain. (I know you know)

Well, if it's going to get dirty in a couple days anyway after a wash, might as well have fun with it.

Spent the Superbowl Sunday morning with some friends offroading in the San Gabriel mountains.

Brought our kids out too and they had a blast. My buddy brought out his '73 Series II, and used his winch to help recover a rookie. Fortunately the silver FJ Cruiser suffered no damage.

That's a really rare Cayenne that finds the trails and mud.

As we know, most SUV's universally find malls, soccer fields, restaurants, etc.

It's funny, some people give me smack for taking it off road. Irony is they should be annoyed at themselves for not taking their SUVs off road.

Vehicles should be well taken care of AND also enjoyed.
