Ok, I was talking to one of my GT buddies today and we where talking about the Mac Delete box/project. After that chat I called my local "master customer stereo guru". He said that if he had the pattern/measurements he would have no problem with making them. Said that he could do a carbon fiber look exterior with no issue. Before I go to him I would like to do two things.

1. find the pattern for the behind the seat speaker box (and get permission to do it again of course)
2. Get pre-commitments and do it in one shot.

Also we talked about doing a custom storage area in lieu of the factory replacement panel. Any ideas?

Also just to show that I am indeed crazy and a glutton for punishment.

Chris said that he had several Gt owners contact him for roundels/logo again. So we can run another batch at the end of the month for shipment around the 1st week of April (if not a bit earlier)

And last but not least. I have tire paint again ... am waiting for 2 oz bottles to come in then that will be ready also.

Oh God why am I doing this again? :lol Just kidding ... I enjoy it.

Sounds like what Stormcat has already made. He offers the replacement center with storage in Carbon Fiber. I had one on my GT and it looked great.

yes I know of that one. But the focus of our conversation was more about the box than the console.

Talking about a console was one that was kind of like the door pockets on my 335 BMW.

Oh well ... if anyone is interested .. I'm willing to ramrod this one on the mac delete box side at least.

I've got this and something else...

I've got these storage consoles that are slightly less than the Ford Factory unit.

As far as a speaker box I've got something in CF cooking for that as well...

Cool ..... But how are you working out the sound out of a CF box? Or is it a cf covered composite box?

I know frank is going to chime in about the bottle holder here somewhere. :lol

No,no, I promised to be a nice guy because I'm second in line. I would never imply that someone might be called "Stormdrain" cause he couldn't finish a job.

Brian, the sound out of an all carbon box might not be too good due to flex. Would look cool but might not sound so good. How do you plan to get around that issue in the space behind the seat? Now I am really interested.

pm me secret agent man.

You can make an enclosure out of fiberglass, then skin it with carbon fiber. You can build up the fiberglass until you reach the desired thickness. If this method is used, I would highly suggest an MDF ring for mounting the speaker. Using this method would also allow more flexibilty with the design.

In the great theoretical would you might have an argument . But in the real world the flat surfaces of whatever box you make has very small sides so the flex factor if any is no real concern.. Fiber fill will take care of any issues. Also as you know bass frequencies are non directional . The speaker will be blocked by the seat so any minor loss of sound quality if any would be undetectable by human ears ... I am not a sound Engineer but I read the home and stereo Mags..
Oh and i did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night !! :biggrin
