Hey, y'all forgot about how many ended up as donor cars for the Galpin...must be at least two, one to show and one to go!

In my opinion the Shelby registry would be the most appropriate keeper of Ford GT provenance.

They already are. Cobrajeff watches over them. They are in a published book from the registry. Awesome data and lots of hard work with complete build info for all cars. Some photos as well.

From what I hear there is only one Galpin car.

Ok, so only one less FGT. I'd have rebuilt the GT instead of turning it into a pizza...

Anyway, if the plan is to actually build them and sell a few (ughhhh) - that's a few less GT's eh! LOL

And I'm sure in a few years they will try to sell it as a one-of-one.

Yes sir, and going forward with new information as well since the status of these cars seems to be everchanging, ownership milage and condition.

If I could have a dollar, for every post where "we" bring this up and debate this, I would finally have my second GT.....

No knock on you in any way, it is just a topic that has been debated for years, many times over. It will also come up again in the future.

I thought this was a pretty innocuous question, and it's one people obviously ponder because it comes up at least once a year. I've certainly wondered how many are left, and I'm definitely not selling mine. No need to jump on anyone over it, and certainly no reason to suggest they leave the forum over it. Sheesh.

Very sad to see.. Just goes to show that owning a fast car doesn't mean that you know how to drive it.

Funny thing about these cars; they're like houses, where you will own it for some period of time, and then, that precious car will one day belong to someone else. It's hard to fathom.

I refer to them as "mine", but I know it's only for a period of time. I will one day sell my yellow one, when the money is right, and the white one I will keep - until I can't drive anymore, and then I'll sell that one too...or maybe if my kids behave, will it to them. It's NOT like any other car in that respect, for me anyway. My other cars will come and go and pretty much end up in the dumpster one day after it's sold, but the FGT's will likely live forever, simply changing hands over time.

Wow ,tough to look at .About 75 cars approximately. Wonder how many are back on the road repaired?
Scary thought.

Witness the value of original Cobras that were wadded up into piles of steel and aluminum on various tracks in the 60's and ultimately rebuilt into strong six figure cars with not much more than the original VIN tag remaining. A lot of gt's will, I suspect, follow this path over the next few decades although there will always be enough minty originals around to govern the value of the salvage units. Just my opinion.....

FYI guys, long-standing forum policy has been no posting pics or links to cars that have been destroyed that are not your personal car. Thanks.

I bought my GT because of it's link to history, American manufacture, beauty, rarity, and performance.
I drive my car often (although not as much as others here) but feel a kinship with those who put their cars in the garage and just stare them.
I think that the question of how many remain is pertinent, as like it or not, these cars are collectible!
However, what will eventually be of less import is the actual mileage that an individual car has seen.
I don't think that buyers of original Shelby Cobras are much concerned about the cars mileage.
Best,
Mark

I was having dinner with few couples and the conversation of FGT came up. I was asked how many were made??? and How many are out there. I started to say about 4,000 made and maybe 3,000 left and bla bla. I was interrupted by one of the guys who is a car guy and he said YEAH I heard many of them have been totalled.

My response was Well many Yuppies who have driven Porsches and Ferraris get an itch to buy a GT and more often if they are not experienced will wreck it withing the first week if not day. The same guys cut me off and said his buddy just bought one and within the first 48hrs of ownership drove it up the curb and a tree.

I hope I never do that to mine. I have driven and owned many German, Italian, British sports cars and luckily the past 10 years have had a knack for american muscle cars and have learned to appreciate the power and dancing with the rear end of the car. So, all I can say is as one other member said in a different post if youre not familiar with the car "Dont gas it unless going straight".

I hope to one day own more than one and perhaps one of each color. My neighbor just got his 4th Ferrari and has all kinds of cars lined up and stacked. But everytime I pull the GT out he just stairs and gived me the thumbs up. He keeps trading Ferraris ever year and hoping to find the best one!!!

We have the best car. Enjoy and drive careful.

I considered my Cobra a training ground for the GT.
