How Many GTs Left?

We have lost two black Gts in the past week. Saleen said some time ago that 20% or about 800 cars have been wrecked.

Bony, do you or anyone else have an idea of about how many of the 20% were totaled? 10%?

With 500 thereabouts exported, that would put the number of intact GTs in the US at about 3150.

I am beginning to worry about us....

You are not accounting for GTs being recycled from a salvage title.

Right, I don't know how to factor them in.

Great question.

I was told 20% by a Saleen executive.

DBK and a Ford executive told me that this number is way high.

I know Ford just ordered 50 frames and their price went uo about $35k.

I would guess 10%+ has been badly damaged.

Right between DBK/Ford & Saleen, I'd say... :frown

Getting Rare?

My best friend who lives in LA came down to play golf with me this week. He has NEVER seen a Ford GT!:eek

He drives a Mercedes SL and says he sees Astons, Lambos. Ferraris and even Carrera GTs all the time, but never a Ford GT.

I thought LA had bunches of them......

And by the way, he told me the pictures of the car don't do it justice, that it is most impressive in person.

I have only seen 2 Ford GT's driving on the street here in So Cal, ever (not including Ford Gt gatherings). I think that the Ford GT has a widespread following across the country that is more evenly distributed geographically than Ferrari or Lamborghini. This is likely because it appeals to a different type of owner that does not own the car just to show off his/her wealth, which is the number one reason most folks own a Ferrari or Lamborghini. I have several neighbors that own Ferrari's, and they don't know where the dipstick is.

I could really go to town with that "...they don't know where the dipstick is" line, but I will instead concur that I have seen a Ford GT on the street less than five times since they came to market, and my daily commute has be going down PCH between Ventura and Santa Monica (i.e. right through Malibu) TWICE a day, five days a week. I see Lambos, Ferraris, Bentleys, Aston Martins and Loti on a regular basis. I see gaggles of BMWs M Cars, AMG Mercedes and Porsches every day (lots or Priuses these days, too...). But I have only seen a GT three or four times in the past three years, and two of those times it was Woboose in his Tungsten car (he lives along that stretch).

I know everyone says that 4,000 was a "high production number" for the GT, but between multiple GT owners, the geographic spread mentioned above, and people squirrelling them away for safe keeping spotting one on the road is as rare as any exotic short of really weird stuff (like Paganis or Vectors -- which I've still spotted more than GTs in the past three years!!).

I'd say there's enough left. I don't sweat other people crashing their cars, or how many remain. There are still thousands of fully functioning, never-dinged GT's out there, so they aren't unicorns or anything.

I do think that long term this is seriously driving up the value of mint low-miles garage queens, because between all the modded up cars and wrecked ones, there's not gonna be all that many left in 15 years :lol

Oh, and p.s, I see GT's all the time in Detroit. Well, maybe not all the time, but pretty frequently. My neighbor has a Heritage with 15,000 miles, I've got almost 11,000, Camilo has nearly 35,000 and in the summer we have them out together constantly...we're driving them over here in Detroit. :banana

Interesting, I just spoke with my good friend who lives in L.A. last night. While at the GT Rally in August, my sons and I drove two GT's to his house. It was the first GT he had seen in person. He told me last night he sees tons of Ferraris daily and lots of Carrera GT's as well.

I am constantly told by people whom I consider gearheads that they have never seen a GT in person. It does seem odd considering the number of GTs out there. Besides the cars being widely distributed as some have suggested, I think this shows many are simply not being driven at all. It's a shame really because they are an awesome site on the road.

There have only been 2 people out of the total who've seen mine who have said they've seen a FGT 'in person' before. And those two folks saw 'em at an Auto Show somewhere.
Except for mine, around HERE there just are no FGT's. Or really any exotics at all for that matter.

(I know. Even WITH mine being here, there are no FGT's around this area 'cause mine is never driven. So it it's never actually been seen either & therefore doesn't count. There. I said it first! :mad)

Rare as hen's teeth.

In 05 I saw a White GT on the Interstate in SC, and that was it. I have never seen another GT on the road. I've seen a few others at car shows I attend but never rolling down the road.

Well we had about 15 last Saturday on the So Cal GT Cruise to Palm Desert, even landed in Idyllwild and the owners of the restaurant moved out the Vipers and the Porsche 356SC club to give us parking spots. I apologize for not having my GT out on PCH, since August. I know of 6 GTs in the Malibu-Santa Monica area. But you are right, they are a rare occurance. Maybe that explains the high looker factor when you pull one up into a parking lot and see the crowds that develop. Was at the LA Autoshow yesterday, saw KRGT there, not too spectacular of a show. Ford has a GT500KR as the only looker car, nothing but hybrids and explorers, vans etc. We were at the right spot at the right time to get these GTs out of Ford. Doubt they will be on that pinnacle again within the near future.

Anyone who destroys a GT should go directly to a life sentence in jail. Amazing that these pinheads screw around with speed and risk the car to satisfy some acceleration-cornering urge and then leave the car in the salvage heap. Capital punishment may have a new standard!

My mom growing up never let us use living room .it was like a museum for guests only .I hated that .It made no sense to me ,not to use the bloody room.
Many ford gt owners make the same mistake . Many keep their cars for best making every opening of the garage door,"as is it worth it?"Well ya , its worth it to drive it any time you can!! As gorgeous as they are to look at (thanx Camilo) They should be driven in celebration of what masterpiece it is .
I believe they are engineered to last and the paint work to go the distance as well .Don't think rust is going to be any problem!
So every time I stand in front of the garage , I think you only get one life to live , So for me, to celebrate life,is to drive it !! I have never thought ,gee I wish I didn't drive the gt today!!!
I think I'll celebrate Thanxgiving and go for a ride !!!!
Hope your Thanxgiving is pleasant !!
