Lion hunting.
Gentlemen,
A very rare sight. In 45 years, and I spend a lot of time all over Arizona's wilderness, I have seen only 3 lions. They are everywhere but are so hard to spot. Unlike the leopard which is about the same size, a healthy Mountain Lion is almost never aggressive toward people. A single lion will kill and eat up to 50 deer a year. They can not be shot unless they pose a direct threat to a person. A hunter with the proper big game tag can take one here in Arizona and I have a fine example in my trophy room. I have 2 beautiful wild Bobcats that live on my property and I would be most upset if either was harmed. I have hunted for a Bobcat when I was younger but was never successful.
Cat hunting is different than just about any other type of big game hunting. Avid hunters will pursue deer, elk, or African buffalo or antelope every year. But I don't know anybody who wants to hunt a big cat more than once. A lifetime limit of one is almost universally self imposed, the hunt is usually difficult and most often unsuccessful, and probably for those reasons lion tags are readily available but seldom purchased.
