Interesting study...I had always assumed that a lean, nonsmoker like myself was advantageous to the health system. However, because people like me live longer on average than obese and/or smokers, our total health care costs over a lifetime are more. It would not surprise me if we found similar results here in the US. Most of us are aware that the majority of the health care costs worldwide involve taking care of the elderly. :eek
