Headroom, how to get more?

I don't see any aftermarket seats sitting meaningfully lower than the stock seats. In my day I've swapped several seats in mustangs and such and had to cut and weld the exact same number of aftermarket assemblies to lower them for headroom. Anything on aftermarket rails is going to raise it and bolting to the floor seems extreme for a street car. Try reclining the seat and moving it forward for position. This works for me and I'm 6'2" and have the bubble installed. Having a bit of headroom with the bubble must make it safer imho - you're going to be more comfortable and in a better driving position. You're head isn't really sticking above the structure of the car, but it gives you a just a little bit extra to make it work with a helmet. I can't imagine any tech guy anywhere bitching it.

If you've looked at that structure, I can't really see where a roll bar is going to be a benefit for HPDE type stuff. A cage would definetely ruin the streetability of the car, however. A roll bar may be similarly dangerous on the street, I think. Nothing like a nice soft roll bar to knock your head against.

Unless things have changed... they are only doing the bubble in Troy not in California.

There was some wildly expensive mail off seat modifications to the bun posted but I checked with some local (and qualified) upholsterers who indicated that recarving the extant bun and recovering using extant material was not particually difficult. However if you want to lower the seat and you are the only driver simply remove the slide mechanism and bolt the (now non movable) seat to the floor.

T]hat is correct. I was at Saleen in Irvine for some different work and inquired about the bubble. They have to send the door to Troy, and will give me a quote in a couple of days.

BlackAce,
I have my seat lowered by a local guy in Pasadena and if you are ever in SoCal, you're welcome to come sit in the car to see if the lowered seat is low enogh for you. My hair used to rub against the headliner, so I went as far s removing he fabric headliner to make room, but now I have just enough dlearance for a helmet is I recline a little.

Thanks for the offer HeritageBruce. If I am in the area I will look you up. I sounds like we need about the same headroom. My hair brushes the top of the roof now and my hair is about 1" above my skull.

How is the comfort of the seat with most of the padding removed?

Anyone else bolt the seat directly to the floor?

This is what I did in all of my vipers and it works great.

How did he lower it? Was the whole seat lowered, or just the reupholster job?
