Has anybody taken their Gas lid apart for painting or powder coating?

I am thinking about painting my gas lid. After taking it off of the car it does not look like it is easy to disassemble. It looks like the top of the lid has two studs or rivets that hold it to the base. I think it can be drilled and threaded so screws can be used in place of the studs or rivets. Can anyone who has done it share some insight on how they reassembled it?

I have seen photos of at least one powder coated black - may have been photos of one of Shelby's cars (at Elite Autos) some time ago. Very nice. May want to ask him.

I have seen 2 cars that have been either painted or powder coated also. I really love the look better than stock. Both were private owners, but I do not remember who they were. Shelby if you have had this done can you please reply on how you did it. Thanks.

The rivets have to be drilled out to seperate the two pieces. You then have to drill and tap new holes into the round part of the lid then bolt them together with 2 new bolts. This is how we have done all of the ones that we have painted, powdercoated, and polished.

Good information

As for the caps painted completed by Jason's team; those were painted assembled because of the concern for the OEM assembly procedure.

Thank you for the information

Thanks for the information. That was the only way I could see to do it, but I wanted to make sure that it had been done by someone else.

Thanks for the complement.

I had Rich powdercoat them in a flat black.

Wheels are done the same.

Am doing the same on the rear louvers and vents.

As Shadowman stated, the ones that we have done were painted as assembled units which turned out perfectly.

This is definately a doctored photo. There is water behind his car. There is no water in Central TX at this time. Spirit is pulling a fast one on you.

Just to confirm, the caps were powder coated while fully assembled and there were no issues with the hinge or the spring gumming up? Thanks
