Morning, is the battery a "GT" battery with a black top or is it red? Put it on battery tender, will last forever (or at least as long as Bony is alive).

Thanks, Snaproll.

Cars are so much better now, in a technical sense. There isn't a Sixties Cobra or Seventies muscle car that will outrun a Ford GT. It's like comparing a Stearman to an F-16. But while the GT is every bit as hard-edged as Jezebel, something is missing in today's rides - all the romance has gone out of them. The good news? Big Brother hasn't managed to kill them off altogether.

Black, with "Ford GT" lettering, just like the OEM. Having seen generic red top Optima batteries advertised for around $175, I was surprised the OEM sold for only $125. You'd think the Ford GT logo alone would have been good for a $50 premium.

Thanks for the advice. Makes sense. So, how old is Bony?

Older than dirt. They do have some red top "GT" labeled batteries out there. What was the charge to put it in, $500 GT tax?

No charge, the battery is still sitting in the box. The Service Manager personally carried it some 50 yards and put it into the trunk of my grocery-getter. Does that count?

Pitts Ford-Mercury is a small dealership out in the boonies. They happened to win the Ford lottery just as I was looking for a GT. It was in all the local papers. Ok, the only local paper. When I came to take delivery, they had just one other car in the showroom, a red Ford Fusion. That's pretty much all you could fit in there without crowding the GT. I paid sticker for the GT, but with prevailing cash-backs and discounts on the Fusion, they worked it out to where the sales tax on the GT would have bought the econo-box outright! And, like, how's that supposed to make me feel good?!

Anyway, if you live near Williamson, NY outside of Rochester and happen to be in the market for a Ford or Mercury at a fair price, with old-fashioned, small-town country service, give Pitts-Ford a call. Shameless plug, I know, but these guys are outstanding. They deserve it.

As it so happens, the day I picked up my GT, I also picked up a maroon Fusion SEL. Wrote some big checks that day.
