I was reading through a post on batteries as mine is on a 2amp charger after taking a dump. I was wondering if I should buy another OEM battery. One of the posts in the thread mentions saving as much as you can of the OEM [/B]parts. It cited rare Mustang parts form the Boss cars being about the price of a new Focus.

I can feel this sentiment 100% after doing several Mustang and Shelby restos. I have always thought like that too. But it took 38 years to get there.

In 38 years I will be 87 years old. I have no issue with 87, my dad is 89. he is afraid to drive the car no matter how much I push him. He backed over my mailbox last year, so now he has a complex:confused. I will eventually find a safe place for him to give it a run. At 89 he may set a record for oldest GT driver:biggrin. What you think?, How old is Shelby, I think he is younger than 89. He may hold the current record.

But, at that age I most likely won't give a rats behind, what widget I have or don't have. Maybe I should make my kids store all the stuff :biggrinas they will get the car. I think saving this stuff makes some sense for the younger guys.

Will I have the car that long ?. Well , I had my first Shelby for 34 years. So I guess so. Not quite sure what fuel it will be running on.:bored Our Govenator just banned trans fats from resturants due to better alternatives. Maybe the excess trans fats can solve the fuel crisis. Note to self, short trans fat producers Monday and buy another GT:banana[/I]

Unless congress changes their position and allow us to tap our own oil reserves, the GT and other gas cars will be dinosaurs of the past and primarily museum pieces. I don't see any 91 octane gas in 2046 and it won't be PC to drive a car like a GT on the public roads. Much like wearing a fur coat is not PC today. Expect the car to be vandalized if you leave it unattended in 2046.

ahhh but can you imagine the protection systems available in 2046?

I'll call mine "dirty harry" .... :biggrin See if they can make one fold up for transport in the Gt's trunk. :ack

In 38 years the "OEM battery willl be dead", just get the Optima gel red top. Kendall at Cool Tech, LLC can hook you up with a great battery charging set up. So easy to use, even this guy can use it :biggrin

Dad's of GT owners Day

Checked with the Speedventure boys and Nov at Cal Speedway I will try to get him to run the OVAL. Senior Speeds of Course. :biggrin. I have a friend buying a run group and he offered to donate 10 mins or about 4-5 laps depending how fast he goes.

Sam you ought to bring your dad too. :thumbsup, But no, my dad can beat your dad jokes, you have a Whipple.

I was reading through a post on batteries as mine is on a 2amp charger after taking a dump. I was wondering if I should buy another OEM battery.

Same problem, so last week I bought a new OEM battery ($128.94 with core charge) from Pitts Ford, the local Ford dealer who sold me the GT. The original battery no longer takes a charge from the Battery Tender, nor will it hold a charge for more than a couple of days, but it will start the car after a few hours on a trickle charger.

I'm not planning to replace that battery until absolutely necessary. In the meantime, do I put the replacement battery on a battery tender, or let it sit in the box and charge it a couple of times a year? What will give me a longer shelf life? Like, what does Sears do with their slow movers that hang around in inventory for months at a time?

FYI, I own seven cars from the Fifties, two from the Seventies (Boss 302 and TransAm), and two from 2006 (Corvette and FGT). Any guesses as to which are the biggest PITA's when it comes to maintenance!? Or for which of those cars parts will be made of unobtainium in another ten years? When I ordered the battery, I also had them order a six-pack of the cheap plastic fasteners that hold down the luggage(!?!) tray. Lost one the other day, trying to get at the battery. Damned if I can find it. I know I won't find one in 2018.
