GTE-Pro winner Sebastien Bourdais involved in serious accident during Indy Qualifying

Prayers for our Friend and a speedy recovery.

The good news: the surgery was successful. Apparently he will spend the next 10 days in Indiana before being flown back to St. Petersburg to begin rehabilitation.

The bad news: he's reportedly out for the season in Indycar, and will obviously miss the chance to defend his title in the GT at Le Mans next month.

So now the quest begins to find a 3rd wheelman to share duties with Dirk and Joey, and take the victory on his behalf.

Watching the wreck was terrifying and although the injuries were severe is a miracle the result was not worse.

Sure is breaking our most successful team but I'm sure Ford will find a competitive driver and hopefully the winning chemistry continues.

They just talked about Bourdais during the broadcast, said the surgery went better than expected, they were able to do both surgeries they planned at one time instead of several days apart and Seabass was already talking about getting back in the car this year.

"I want to thank everybody for the support and the messages, quite a few drivers have already dropped by," Bourdais said. "It's going to take time, but I'm feeling pretty good since the surgery. I'll be back at some point. Just don't know when yet!"

Just returned to civilization and read the news on the accident... All I can say is that was unbelievable how fast he was going and sure glad he didn't hit head on. Guessing that would have been much worse. God speed to the Seabass! Prayers going out to him. Hope he recovers quickly.

Sounds like "both surgeries" means he had a pelvic fracture and a fracture of his hip or hip socket (acetabulum). Typical in an accident when the thighbone gets shoved up into the hip socket. Sounds like they got the fractures realigned and fixed.
On a similar topic, I got to talk to Dario Franchitti about his major shunt in Houston in 2013, while we were in Le Mans last year. He sustained significant lower extremity injuries and a spine injury, and was treated by the OrthoIndy guys. Watch the video of his crash sometime...pretty scary.

He also eludes to an earlier than expected return, prior to the beginning of the 2018 season. Phenomenal conditioning and attitude, in addition to great medical care/attention! Hope that he is able to come to LeMans, even though he can't drive.
