Fred Goodnow, the manufacturing manager on the 05/06 GTs, and I spent hours together working on the Ford GT Team History year book. He was on the GT90 program. He told me about the hoops they had to jump through to get the ceramic tiles used on the space shuttle from NASA. They were used around the exhaust pipes. The motor was 2 V-6 s welded together. The motor was a 1 off according the powers that be, BUT somewhere, in the bowels of a Roush building, behind locked doors is a second one he had made. Of course that was years ago so who knows what happened to the motor and the car.

Another little morsel from Fred about the 05/06s. Next time you get into your Ford (except the 05/06 GTs) the headlight switch will be to the left of the steering column. Been that way for many years, at least on US cars. Fred said it was quite an ordeal getting Ford corporate powers that be to allow it to be mounted on the right.
