Yeah, Jack Roush has a P-51 named "Old Crow"
"Big Jim" is the guy who has his own work area in the back of one of Roush's Detroit locations, where he rebuilds every Merlin engine that Jack can scrounge up.
Got a call from a Ford Marketing guy a few years back, they wanted a nice '65 Mustang convertible for a photo shoot with Jack's P-51 and a "40th Anniversary"
model Mustang they were going to hype in 2004, since demand for the decade-old SN95 Mustang was fading as word got around about the dynamic re-styling
of the S197 model due out in 2005.
"Jack will probably take you for a ride in his P-51" was one of the lines the marketing guy used to lure me out to Willow Run airport at 8:00 in the AM on a very
cold March morning. He neglected to mention that the photographer Ford hired thought early evening light was best, and we'd kill the whole day sitting on the
runway waiting for the "money shot" just about sunset. :eek
No P-51 ride, no copies of the Ford Press Kit that would feature the photos, nada..... Jack WAS kind of intrigued by my Redline Radials, though. "Where'd ya
get them tires?" I gave him my card, and he said "I'll have my people contact your people about where to get the Dual-band Redline Radial tires". :bored
Next time I saw Jack's early Mustang HiPos in his private collection, they were all wearing Redline Radial tires....
