Now THAT'S why we own these things - using them as God had intended. I think had I had a camera on my car 200 yards back the sound of those open pipes on your GT-40 would have still drowned out my car. Great memories, great video!

Thanks Jim that was a fantastic time! You don't really get a sense of the pace of the drive until we finally come up on some traffic at the top. That was so much fun.

'Interesting that it took a whole 9 minutes b4u got bottled up behind Peter Puttalong & co. Around HERE it wouldn't have taken 9 seconds...

I was behind him and yes, the sound was reverberating off the canyon walls like crazy. I had my windows open but the GoPro in my car didn't do it justice.

It was an amazing first leg. There was literally no traffic. We got behind a truck with a horse trailer as we left Lyons but were able to get around him before we got into the canyon. After that no traffic until we got to Allenspark when we pulled off for a side trip. That was the reason Mike was lead because he knew where to go but the road was freshly chip sealed so we didn't go there. That was the the location of the first group shot in my pics.

Having that road alone is a treat I've experienced twice before. This time of the year it's locals and at that time of the day they are coming downhill...

I have video of going up and coming down through Big Thompson. Mike, what's your FTP? I like your editing - I'm just not familiar enough with video to do it yet. Maybe over the winter.

Note also that Mike's cameras were mounted on the outside of the car (front and rear). He did a good job of time-syncing the front/rear shots. I didn't look at the speedometer much, but the speed limit here is 40. You also don't want to go too early. A friend hit a deer on the way to work just a few days before and even then there is no guarantee there won't be one darting across. I was constantly on the lookout for them on the side of the road.

Met up with the Cobra club yesterday for a drive down the back way to Monument and lunch at La Casa Fiesta. Good times!

We went on another canyon run today. We weren't so lucky going up the hill as last weekend - we stopped a couple of times to make a gap in the traffic so we could flow by. But on the way back we had the highway to ourselves. It was awesome weather. Mike got vids going up and I got them coming back. Jim was trip leader today :)

Today's vids on the way to FTP. The "up the hill" one will be done some time tomorrow. Slow internet in the mountains. Sigh. But I like it here. Even the skunk going off at 5:30. :(

Thanks for sharing the videos. How do you like the forward fender mirrors? They look "right" on the GT40.

I have become accustom to them and find them to be more than adequate. They do take some getting used to.

This is a video from a week ago yesterday. The audio is not great and so I tried some different settings and mounting configuration yesterday. It turned out way worse. I wasted an awesome video chasing two GTs up the canyon with audio that is atrocious. Sorry guys. I will either get my current mic setup figured out or engineer something entirely new to capture the sounds of these great cars against the canyon walls.

I don't think the sound is so bad. When you drop into the valley of Estes, which might be about 1 or 2 minutes after the video ends, the view is stunning.

It was a great day - the color and sky are really awesome.

My vids from this last Sunday just finished (after almost 24 hours) the FTP upload so Mike can play producer/director. I'm just the cameraman. I wonder if my car will end up like McQueen's camera car? It is the same color :)

I thought the sound was pretty decent Mike. Wind Buffeting was minimal.

You could always dub some more of that faux Doors music over the top. :biggrin

:) Hey now!

That's not wind, its an over modulation rumble. The car is somewhat louder than most. No, it's a lot louder than most. I'm recording using a Zoom external mic then syncing back up with Final Cut. I have a couple ideas but am set on figuring out how to get good clean HQ audio. It really makes or breaks the video I think. Great footage with crappy GoPro sound is not that great.

So many details to worry about...

Well if satisfying your OCD behavior means "another take" up the canyon I guess that's a sacrifce that we'll have to make. Sounds like we'll have to wait about more 5 months for the chance, but I'm a patient person and the canyon will still be there. Dang it's going to be a loooong Winter.

You may very well be right Jim about the beginning of a long winter. They do keep backing off on the storm coming in though. I am crossing my fingers they don't sand or mag chloride so we'll see. I would give my left something to be able to drive it one more weekend before heading up the mountain :)
