GT Driven
My GT was bought new in March,2006 with 3.2 miles on it. And I drive it often. Like KJRGT's, it has been left for many weeks at a time, never been on a charger, always starts up with out a problem and no other issues at all.
This last week I did hit a couple personal milestones with the GT. I crossed off "driving to and through" all 48 States on my bucket list. Plus D.C. and 7 Canadian Provinces.
And this last monday morning the odometer rolled past 80,000. Which includes 2,500 to 3,000 miles on various race tracks around the country.
I not experienced any signification troubles at all. The GT gets routine maintenace, pretty much by the book, done at Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent, Wa. Fuel mileage varies from 22-27 mpg on Freeways, 15-17 around town and < 4 on the track. I generally get 10-12,000 miles on the Goodyears out back and replaced the front tires at 70,000. Replaced one windshield at 40k. I'm on my 4th set of break pads and one change out of the brake rotors. The only time the check engine light came on while driving was due to an O2 sensor, which was replaced. I'm on my 4th set of wiper blades. The shift cables were replaced at 10k due to the jacketing material melting and it became tough to shift. It has gotten real hot a few times on the race track, so we think that is was caused the problem. Had one flat tire at Goliad, Texas.
I have persoalized my GT a bit. Very first item was Jay's lower height shift ball, follwed by the Ford Racing transmission cooler. In 2007 The GT Guys installed the shorten throw shifter, and put on a Heffner small pully and tune. Kip Ewing's carbon fibre console with glove box came next. And in January of 2009 Stillen installed their 3.9 crown gear in the transaxle and a h.d. clutch. I also installed Stillen's front and rear "mud flaps" and their standard length rear poly rear splitter.
One of the real joy's of owning the GT has been meeting many, many of you fellow GT owners. You are some of the nicest people on the face of the earth. And of course the Forum Fun Fest and attending all 5 Rally's -Dearborn, Newport Beach, Las Vegas, Austin and Raleigh. And getting to know the guys at Ford who designed, test and built our GT's. Their passion for automobiles and love of the GT is highly evident.
And of course meeting so many GT fans along the way. The 4-5th graders who know more about the GT than we owners. The grandma's and grandpa's who kind of just stand and stare for a bit and then say - That is a beautiful car. To the high 5's when on the road. Camera phone pictures everywhere. To the air horn honks from the truckers. And answer the same 5 questions nearly evertime you get gas. And the millions of waves and smiles along all the miles I have driven my GT.
Life has been good to me. Owning and driving a GT and know you fellow GT owners has made it even better.
Thanks Everyone.
