Clearly I don't understand smog requirements if that's the case. If you bought the car from Marv last year, it should have been smogged just prior to the purchase. That should keep your smog cert good for 2 years, i.e. another year. What am I missing here?

Bonehead. I am the last person qualified to speak on Ca smog requirements. Honestly can not give you a good reason why. I was scratching my head as well but with the DMV penalties associated I decided just to get it done.

Every time you sell/buy a used car in California, you have to get it smogged!!!

Correct. Which is why I don't understand why Vince had to get his car re smogged only a year after he bought it from Marv.

I think in CA regardless of when you car last got smogged because of a sale or out of state purchase of a new car, the car is smogged every two years based on the VIN number. If you car's VIN is odd you get smogged on odds years and even on even years.

My current California registration, the 11th I have done, called for another smog certification.

As it has always done, today the GT passed with flying colors. Only modifications are Ford Racing Tune with the Ford Racing Pulley (installed by Cooltech's dynamic duo) and a Stillen exhaust.

Even though I've never had an issue I still get worried something will trip a no-pass reading. At least now I don't have to sit and worry a long time while the process is underway. New technology is wireless and no more dyno pull. I swear it took less than 10 minutes! Now I get a two year reprieve. :thumbsup
