This is pretty interesting. I assume these prices were for new untitled cars? Is this information available to a layman, or do I have to be a member of some organization to get it?

Thanks.

Not available to the general public. You have to be a dealer...and pay the annual fees to get the info. However...the info is rock solid. Manheim is the index that MOST dealers use to determine wholesale price on a trade. The '05 GT is not being traded much. The last sale is below. The 814 is the mileage. The "factory" tells you it was a Ford owned car...Exec demo...show car..etc.

08/16/06 SO CAL Factory $145,000 814 Above D3BRTRD 8G 6 Yes

Thanks for the insight. It is always fascinating to me to learn the idiosyncrasies of various industries. Useful quality data comes from some pretty obscure sources to those outside the business. Knowledge is power, power is profit.

I appreciate your post. :thumbsup

ass-o-lutely spot on information, nada and kelly books are more for consumers, the wholesale auto auction activity for the last few weeks is the car dealers bible

I've used Manheim many items over the years, and they have always been dead on wholesale market.

something strange about that car. i called on it and tried to buy it and after 3 phone calls finally got a call back from dealer in arizona that said it sold for 150k. i see it is advertised in cars.com for 185k now.somewhere on east coast. try calling some of the dealers when they list a price on autotrader when they have it listed like berge ford in az for 157k ha! they finally called me back and said it would take 189k for it. call around on some of the dealer listings in autotrader or auto mart. if anything prices have gone up. ivew talked to a few of the honest dealers and they say other dealers are trying to buy them and tack on another 5 to 10k because supply is running out.

GT's are gorgeous and they perform great. Their distant cousins have a short but stunning race history. All good stuff but seriously, how much do you think a 165K car, even with these attributes, is going to command at resale in say, ten years time, after 4000 of them were made?

My answer to that is WHO CARES!!!

If you bought it to resell then you bought for the wrong reasons....I don't ever see mine being sold...so that said its going to take more than I payed for it to get it from me.....

Congrats, hate to see you leave the community. Regarding this thread, and the guy who thinks he will be replacing Paul, I am getting bored to tears... time to go to an open house. Merry Christmas.

For anyone interested this sale was *FAKE*.. I contacted the seller and it was a hoax auction fraudulently put on the account.

This is apparently an eBay epidemic, as three other exotics I've looked at of other makes have also had fraudulent buy it now prices. Here is the text that accompanied the response to my offer of cash within 24 hours in person. The bolded portion has been copied and pasted on multiple fraudulent eBay auctions.

ebay scammer said:
Hi, and thank you for looking at my auction.

Just like it says on the auction page, the car is an '06 Gallardo Roadster E-gear in black with tan interior and carbon fiber trim loaded with options.
It's in brand new condition, with no dings, no dents, no scuffs, nothing having been damaged on it since new. The balance of the factory warranty will be transferred to the lucky buyer. The car has not been smoked in and was detailed by a professional every once in a while. It has a clean title, no liens or loans, and around 1300 miles, and only one owner, myself. Naturally, this car is garage kept.
I'm being forced to sell the car because I'm moving to Europe with my job, which won't give me enough time to enjoy it, so I figured I'dd cut my loss short and part with it now.
I have set the price at $132,000 in hope of a fast sale, with no further negotiation accepted.
As you can probably tell, I have a very busy schedule this time of the year, so I'm keen on selling the car through eBay, which is to everyone's benefit.
If you're not familiar with the neutral third party, it works like this. After the transaction is started, you are invited to deposit the amount in a neutral account which eBay controls. After the amount is deposited, I am invited to send you the car for a 15 days inspection period during which you need to decide wether to accept the car or not. If you reject it, your deposit is refunded and I have to arrange shipping back for the car. If you choose to accept the car, you have to give consent so that the money is transfered to me.
This works for me because I see the money exists and is held by eBay, in a secured account. It works for you too because the deposit is also insured by eBay.

If you are sure about the car and want to go ahead this way, I need to know your name and address to start the transaction. You need to decide soon, at this price the car is not going to be on the market for more than a day or two.

Sincerely,
Erik Salmonson
