Have you checked the dipstick after its warmed up and just shut down? If its full to the top line on the dipstick when cold it will be overfilled when warm.

Engine must be warm and have been shut down no more than 60 seconds prior to checking oil level. This is different than any other Ford because of the dry sump oil system. Dealer may not have known?

I am sorry, it's a transmission cooler. I just drive, clean and wax car, I actually know nothing else. Why did my car take 11 quarts??

Perhaps they filled it after it had been stationary for a length of time. Oil Dipstick measurements must be made within 1 minute of shutting down the engine. Otherwise some oil will flow out of the dry sump.

Sorry to highjack - Can I just take oil out of where they fill it. I am scared to drive it to dealer.

If it's not spilling or spouting any oil out anywhere, just leave it. It's a dry sump engine, so the oil performing its duties within the engine is pumped there by the oil pump. The oil reservoir is just there to provide that oil to the pump.

If its overfilled, yes you can take oil out the fill cap with a turkey baster or other suction device. If its only slightly overfilled, I'd leave it. As long as there is good air space above the oil level for the bubbles to get out and not overflow.

Finally got my 2 airbag inflators replaced yesterday. Tomball Ford did the work. I was leary but they made the appointment for the only mechanic they let work on these cars and the Shelbys. They ordered the parts and had them ready. I was on my way home by 9:20am. They did a great and careful job, let me stay with the car while they did the work and only moved the car about 100 ft total.

The passenger side is much more involved as it requires removal of the entire lower dash trim panel and the metal panel behind it on the passenger side. But the work is done and the car none the worse for it. I tipped the mechanic and he told me for him, that lower dash panel removal was one of the most stressful items he has ever done. He KNEW the cost to replace if he broke it.

One interesting tidbit he told me, Ford alots 45 minutes to replace each inflator. On a Ranger pickup they alocate 15 minutes for the driver and 30 for the passenger and its actually a more time consuming job. Ford wanted the mechanic to have the time to 'do it right' on these cars.

Has anyone heard anything about a change in the 14B09 recall? (that is the driver side, there is a different one for passenger). The recall number applies to all applicable vehicles including Mustangs as well as the GT.

Some people in the Shelby forum are being told by their dealers that the recall only applies "if the light is on"... That would seem to contradict info in all other places that say it is a Takata recall regardless of status.

Anyone else heard anything about this change?

.

Is this the panel that runs al the way from door to door below the cut line in the middle of our dash? That is a big piece to remove.

That is contrary to the notice Ford sent to the GT owners. Not sure if the recall number is the same for the Shelbys

Yep, thats it.

Was it secured at very many points?

Did the upright part of the console need to come out first?

Thanks

Lots of push in clips. Each one had to be carefully manipulated out of its hole without breaking. He had photos on his computer showing him where each one was. None of the console or radio section moved or was disturbed. Once the lower panel was removed and the anti-submarine plate at the passenger's knees was loosened, the passenger air bag module came out from the front.

So he had to be on his back up underneath to access them all I presume?

Love to see a picture of the panel off and the backside of the panel itself if anyone gets a chance.

Thanks

He did have to crawl down on the floorboard both sides for a few but most were accessed while leaning in from one door or the other. He had both doors fully open blocking the adjacent bays partly.
