I recently purchased a Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar; rear replacement tire (P315/40ZR19)from my Ford Dealer.

In my 2005 owners manual it states that "you can drive 50 mph upto 120 miles on a flat tire."

The replacement tire does not have an inner liner. However, per the specs it does have carbonfiber sidewalls.

My question is "Are the carbonfiber sidewalls what enable this tire to perform as specified in my owner's manual?":confused

What!!?? We can drive on a flat?? I didn't think we had run-flat tires. Do we?

Isn't that after you use the sealant kit?

Is the right answer I should think....

Driving any distance on a completely flat time will most likely damage the rims! If that happened, have your rims inspected!

'Sounds like maybe your replacement tire just isn't the same as the OEM's at all. I'd call whomever sold it 2U and ask him direct.

I've never heard of a "carbonfiber sidewall". 'Have NO CLUE at all what that's about. Are tire mfgs now using that material like the "steel belts" of old, or what? 'Anybody know?:confused

I lost a rear after contact with debris at around 90 mph, the debris penetrated the tyre wall which deflated instantly.
Possibly took half mile to pull over and stop, the tyre stayed firmly in place on the rim but not much left of the wall(s) in a short distance.
No carbon fibre here & the emergency kit is just that.

Apologies for poor pictures, phone camera, think you will see the point though.

A Goodyear guy informed me these tyres are not run flat and replacements are same spec. as OEM, they are manufactured for this vehicle only and are also made in batches as stock depletes, last manufacturing run as far as he could tell me was 2006, my replacement tyre info confirmed manufacture was 2006.

Trust this helps.

There is a runflat version (EMT) but I can't find it in our size. They show it as OEM on Z06's, in a different size. I looked on tirerack.com.

Roger, are you suggesting that the tyres will no longer be available? That would be worrisome.

Hi Neil,

I used a business contact within Goodyear & he came back with the batch manufacturing information, he was unable to confirm when the next manufacturing run would be so although not discontinued will only be made when demand is justified to put the mould on line.
All the High St and internet tyre sales here list them but no stock and no information regarding availability, Tire Rack in U.S has plenty at a good price so I will be getting a full set shipped in.
I got my replacement via David Jones at Roush who have limited stock and was a little pricey compared to Tire Rack at a little under £400.00

:thumbsup

Be happy to stick some tires in the containers with the LeMan's shipment if it helps you folks.

I am bringing Neilda 318 Mexicans so my container might be a little tight. Understand he is opening a Sauza Tequila Bar and needs some local color

If this is a OE tire then there is no Carbon Fiber in the side wall. The tire is NOT a run flat. You must use the tire inflation kit (for holes in the tread area). You then can go up to 100+ miles a 50 mph (if you are able to inflate to OE tire pressures). Tire must be replaced as no repaires are allowed.

If one were to buy a spare set, wouldn't the tires get hard and dry in storage over time? Is there some way to prolong the life or 'freshness' while in storage?

I've got a spare set of PS2's for my Viper and I keep looking at them with a jaundiced eye.

I'm about ready for a new set of rears for the GT with only 4,700 miles on the clock. :mad :biggrin
