I will be down on Saturday for C&C and make sure that SteveA really goes off to Potatoland.

Hope you can make it. :)

Not sure about this Saturday. Maybe with the GT? I won't be getting the FCX for a couple of months:frown

Chris,

I already cleared it with Honda. In fact, they came out with me one Saturday to check it out before they gave me the blessing. They said that it was okay to organize all 5 of us at one time for C&C. I'll see how hard it will be (I'm the only non-celeb. in the group), but I intend to be there the first Saturday I get it!

Hey Jay, why don't you let me, DBK and Camilo take it for a spin like you did with your Segway. With any luck Camilo will manage to miss the trees and bushes this time!:lol

You guys are all pro drivers, so, I'm sure Honda would have no problem letting you guys test drive the FCX.

(I figure Honda must be reading these posts, so I said the above for their benefit. But we know the true story):wink

Sweeeeeet deal Jim.

Real curious to see what it looks like. So far, the pics I have seen aren't all that discernable.

BTW - are you aware that UCI has a hydrogen station and at least one Honda hydrogen powered car?

Yes, that is one of the reasons I was chosen. My office is a few blocks away. I'll be the first commercial user to fill at that station.

May I please ad (not to take away from the point of this thread, but to compliment it) the following:

In California, Honda has a factory Natural gas car sold through dealers...it gets 30 to 32 mpg of compressed natural gas, and, here's the cool part...you can fill it at "gas" stations around California, or you can buy an "appliance"...sort of like an aircompressor...to compress natural gas that comes to your home...and fill for an equivilent $1 per gal...(no road tax)...

The company with the Gas filling stations has T. Boone Pickens as its largest shareholder (sadly, I have no shares)...

The Honda Civic is a "normal" car with Normal performance...

Maybe someone here has such a car or has a friend that does...The woman I talked with at the gas-filling-station-company has one and loves it...

Darn Honda...they have everything...(and they all seem to work)...soon, there is going to be a Honda Jet...

Sure seems a honda, at about $1 per gal, nat gas, filled at your own home, and it legally drives in the 'commuter' or car pool lane, is ahead of the curve...

Damn OPEC...

Congratulations. This is an important step toward saving the precious gasoline for high HP exotics. :biggrin :cheers

Yes, the Honda natural gas cars are driving around So. Cal. I saw one yesterday. These are a great alternative to using gasoline. Honda even has a device that you can hook up to your home natural gas (a fuel cell) to create Hydrogen. While this is the dirtiest was to create hydrogen, it is 150% cleaner than what we are doing now! The home fuel cell creates 10KW (you home only needs 1 or 2 KW). Your home is off the grid and not only do you sell the excess back to the electric company, but you can fill up your fuel cell car! Yes Honda is ahead of the curve. When gasoline hits $10 we will all wish we had come up with this stuff!

I totally agree. In fact, if gasoline keeps going up I may not have enough money to keep buying more cool cars! No, that won't stop me:lol

Oh, trust me!!!!!! Gov't WILL FIND A WAY to make darn good and sure nobuddy gets away with THAT for long!!!!!! THEY'LL GET THEIR ROAD TAXES!!! You can COUNT on that!

My guess is non-gas powered cars (hydrogen, or electric, or home made bio diesel - whatever) will be charged a tax based on actual MILES DRIVEN. Or, such cars will be required to pay BIG BUX for their license tabs over and above what gas powered vehicles of like size/type are charged based on average MPG of same and average miles driven statistically...plus a fudge factor!

But, one way or another there'll be no "tax free" driving allowed! TRUST ME!

Yewz heard it here first!

Mr. Pockets...

The Nat Gas Hondas DO pay road tax when they fill up at a commercial station I believe...

But, you can buy an appliance and hook it up to your home supply and fill it yourself...no road tax...

It would be my opinion that the local Dept. of Motor Vehicles would have no idea, nor would they care if you were filling at home...thus, the license plate charge should be similar to the gasoline equivilent car...

about the only way I can think of to skirt the road tax charge...

And as one man said...saves gas for your Ford GT...

1) 'Zactly. It's a COMMERCIAL station...just like a gas station. Everything's metered.

2) And you can't foresee mebbe a big TAX-A-ROO on these "home fueling appliances" when they're purchased (sorta a gas guzzler tax in reverse if you will)? And having to put on the sales form whatever info the gov't may see fit to get from you in order to TAX ya? And mebbe requiring an annual FEE (license) for the possession of said home refueling equipment? And ANOTHER "fee" for, say, an annual SAFETY INSPECTION on same? And a requirement that one attend an annual government "refresher course" on how to safely USE this equipment - for a FEE , of course!? And requiring a tamper proof METER be installed on every home refueler so's gov't would know how many gallons (or whatever measure is appropriate) you pumped for tax purposes? An' pbly an annual gov't run "METER CALIBRATION" for yet another fee? 'Ya followin' me here?

My point is you can darn well bet your sweet bippy the state WILL care about the lost revenue at the pumps!!! And they WILL take measures to see to it something is put in place to offset the loss dang PRONTO! :cheers

I think it is really sad to see all the articles from all the different car magazines and newspapers saying that Honda is catering to Hollywood like all the other manufactures. The fact is they are giving me (by the way a very non-celeb) the 3rd car ever built for production! From what I understand the majority of the remaining 195 cars will also go to everyday folk just like me.

I think it really takes guts for Honda to do that:thumbsup
