If I ever take my Whipple off I will be sure to examine this area for cracks. The center of the shaft also appears to have cracks, or is that just how it looks in the photo?
I would say more for dampening the drive if there is a slight missalignment and also if the engine stalls it would take the shock,
and take the shock loading when changing gears etc

The whipple is 5 mm wider than the OEM one:frown
whipple is on the left OEM is on right
I would agree it is a consumable, I think I will get a couple.
