This is one I have not seen before. 100% stock car with 4000 miles. As far as I can tell based off the pictures from the scene and what I took when I did the estimate. The passenger side cross over hose failed on the fuel rail.. Owner saw a bunch of liquid on rear window before fire started. Thankfully fire department was close. There was a big trail on the road also. He got the car shut off right away and stopped quick enough but he couldn’t get the clambshell open (due to heat) to use fire extinguishers from passer by’s and probably a good thing as the extra open air could of really let the fire spread. Did a fair bit of damage but insurance company agreed to repair the car and NOT give it a salvage title.
I know some have experienced the seepy rubber cross over hose on the fuel rails. So I wanted to post this as a caution. I personally feel it was a fluke deal but it did happen.
If I find the fire started from something else when I take the car apart late December I will post my findings.
