Ford vs Ferrari movie

I was approached by COTA a couple of months ago to be included in a large Movie Premiere type event. They are trying to make up for the crap they put DBK through at the last Austin Rally. So time has passed, I check in every once in a while to see if it is happening. The first story I get is they are checking with a Ferrari club to make sure they are in as if they have top priority. Then I check today and let them know that events are popping up all over with vipers, and Shelby Mustangs and I'm ready to try a Plan B for an event. Here is their latest story:

Hi Chris

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you but we can only go as fast as F1 will allow us. They are running this promotion not COTA. If I get any other updates I will send your way.

Time to punt COTA until new ownership and management happens. What does Fi have to do with this historic event? Am I missing something?

Anyone planning a large event for the premiere yet? Looks like Texas Roundup 4 time. If we can get several cars to TX in mid November I'll see what I can do.

I was interested a while back but didn't hear of any other interested parties. I think it would be cool to put the cars on display at a premiere. If anyone is interested, I'd be up for helping organize for a regional event.

Gentlemen,

There will be a big premier for that movie here in Scottsdale on opening night. I would like to get 30+ Ford GT's and Peter Volny has promised 30+ Ferrari's in a police escorted parade right up Scottsdale Road to the Cine Capri theater in north Scottsdale. Security will be provided for the cars while the drivers attend the premiere. Matt Damon & Christian Bale will both be working on new films so they won't take part and that's a drag but it will still be pretty cool. Lots of media will cover the Ford/Ferrari parade. I'll put together some other cool stuff as well as dinner and post it up soon. Cheers.

Chip, sounds like a great plan. If we don't have something similar in SoCal, I might make the trip out to AZ.

Yep, I would consider that as well. If anybody is doing an LA premiere, that would be closer to me but if not, AZ sounds like a blast too.

When we were at Road Atlanta last week we found out at least some of the movie was filmed here. They stored the cars, all reproductions of course, in the basement of the driving club.

Chris. Henry and I should be around if anything is planned somewhere in Austin. We have white and black (salt and pepper) cars 😁

Ok, I checked with Aaron Shelby. He is coming to Austin for a Team Shelby event. We will plan ours around them. I’ll post updates as they happen.

Why are the F-guys so excited to be a part of the opening. Don't they know they lose?

Well, you know that they've taken liberties--I don't think Ol' Shel would have taken a punch from Ken Miles, as shown in the trailer.

They think if they keep watching it another time, the result might change...

Or Hank the Deuce crying like a baby because a professional race car driver did some donuts on a track with him in the passenger seat. I mean come on, the man grew up with, in and around cars his entire life. That scene really irritates me, and it's not even funny unless you're 7 years old.

Yeah, that's not a good scene at all. Cheap attempt at humor. And doesn't seem realistic in any form.

That scene with the Deuce makes me wonder how his character is portrayed in the rest of the movie.

For the launch of the Hobbs and Shaw Movie (Fast and Furious spinoff), McLaren Newport Beach made arrangements to host a reception and movie preview night for their customers, on August 1, in advance of the official debut, at the Regal Theater across from the Fashion Island Mall in Newport. I was invited and they welcomed my Ford GT. They screened off the parking and had staff watching the cars.
They had tray passed catered appetizers in the main movie lobby for the event. As for the movie, any connections to the Fast and Furious franchise were few and far between, but entertaining action sequences, and of course, the McLaren 720S Spyder and a few Triumph motorcycles, as well as a couple interesting vehicles, but nothing truly over the top, like Fast and Furious, for better or for worse.

As a F owner and part of ferrari club (but on the GT forum) I couldn’t be any more excited for our meet up with the Shelby group in our area. We’re all car guys and this is one of best stories in auto racing. Also, even though I own ferrari, my dream car is still a GT...hopefully one day I’ll be an owner of that too!
