Ford Racing Power Pack

I just talked to the Ford Racing guys. They say they have a Ford GT Power Pack that contains a tune, pulley and some kind of calibration tool. The part number for the complete kit is M-2005GT. It retails for $999. Does anyone know anything about this kit? Size of pulley? Tune? HP and Tq gains? Voids warranty?

If this is old news, I apologize. I could not get anything with a search of Ford Power Pack.

There is a description of it prior to it coming out in the 2007 Ford Racing catalog in the GT section. I think it says it is 9mm smaller and around 100-150HP gain depending on the exhaust. The power pack was posted on the Ford Racing section under superchargers around July 30th. My parts guy over at Sanderson Ford said they are on backorder but Ford Racing says there is about 30 kits and 61 pulleys available as of the beginning of last week. However, they don't sell the pulley separately. The kit includes the pulley and a voucher for the calibration tool.

I was told by Dustin Whipple that they sold 200 pulleys to Ford last year & that Ford or Roush was doing the tune. Dustin would know the pulley size.

I had planned on getting it but I skipped that step & went straight to the 19 lb Whipple SC. All the way is the best way!

Well I drove Aloha's car with the Heffner Tune and pulley to the port today. I noticed the following:

Lower temps in traffic

Better smoother Idle

Better throttle response

Huge low end difference in torque - seat of the pants

Pulls harder in higher gears

The drive was about 40 miles in somewhat congested freeway traffic...I never got it over 4,500 rpm.

I rode with Not4re in it when he installed the pulley and tune. He had a little more room to give her a decent run. She really pulled hard, no burps, hiccups, nothing but pure revs to redline.

Interesting enough, is that no Mafia is required with this tune. I spoke with Jason at the rally and he indicated that the tune was enough under the borderline that it was not required.

I have heard that Torries package is also very strong yet safe. I hear he uses a whipple style pulley.

Anyone have any experience with the Ford kit yet?, you would think if it is on backorder it someone would have something to say.

Are all the aftermarket pullies aluminum?

Anyone try to re-press on your stock pulley later?

I can't find the kit on the Ford Racing website. Anyone have a link?

Pulleys

The Roush kit uses a steel pulley; ALL others use a aluminum pulleys !!! I would not use a aluminum pulley, as some have had problems with them slipping on the shaft.

My GT is stock, but as I say you can never have too much HP! I was wondering if there are any HP increasing methods that allow the continued use of 91 pump gas? I would think squeezing 550 hp out of 91 octane is reaching the limit but I don't know.

Have there really been cases of properly installed pulleys slipping on the shaft? The shaft has about 1/4" of small splines near the end. Knowing how much force was used to press the pulley on and the fact that there are these splines, I'd think that slipping would be very, very rare - and maybe limited to cases where the pulley may not have been pressed all the way on??

Check out the MMP kit sold here under supporting vendors.....Way more hp than 550 with 91..

I'm with nota4re here. If there is "slipping", pulley was not installed on shaft right.

I hope you get that worked out ok. Best of luck on that.

91 octane hp

Check out the previous posts on dynos & engine mods (pulley, Whipples, tunes, etc).

724 rear wheel hp with 19 lb Whipple & Shadowman/HP tune - on 91 octane. No detonation, runs better than stock!

Ed I really like the way your Whipple looks. I keep missing an opportuntiy for a ride though.

So what are the down sides, if any, other than cost?

Weight Comparo obviously offset by power. What is the weight diff?
Carb Approved?
Other mods required, recommended?
Rear tire life:biggrin

Is this special tune a sct tune ?
Does your tuner also sell the whipple?

Fess up, there has to be something...trying to find a way out.

$2k for 100
$10k for 200

or save $2k by going all the way now.

The Tune and everything else you can get from Tony at HP Performance. (whipple, mafia, sct, accufab, etc), or Jack at MMP. Both have extensive experience with the Whipple, but Shadowman and Ed love the tune from Tony.

Whipple claims that it has passed the CARB tests and is waiting final approval from CARB. (when, who knows?)

Tire life, depends on your right foot.

Whipple weights 62 lbs bare, I haven't weighed the stock one yet, but have heard that it is 20 lbs lighter.

Other than cost the only downside is that you never have enough HP and the TT setups have even more power at a ever higher csot and more involved installation. Installing a Whipple is not much more work than a pulley change.

I would recommend running only 20% anti-freeze and Water Wetter in both the engine and supercharger's coolant, using a colder plug like a NGK TR7IX and Hoosiers would help a lot with the traction.

Cobra R - I highly recommend the 19 lb Whipple with the HP/Shadowman tune for 91 octane. It's more like $15K & 190 hp. When you get it you'll kick yourself for not getting it sooner. Bony told me to skip the pully/tune & go straight to the Whipple/tune. He was right! I love the power! It's unreal. Ask Tim & his kids or Stormcat (my passenger's at the Rally).

Ed

PS The 15 lb has an approved CA EO #

Ed, I am sold! Your car was amazing. If my video turns out OK, I will have to post our run on the autocross course. Your car's acceleration was like a carrier launch!

The closest CA EO # I could find that Whipple has registered is for a 15lb 3.3L blower on a 5.4L Lightning Truck. No CA EO#'s are on file yet for the Ford GT. To pass CA smog requirements, you must have the EO for the specific vehicle including model year and engine size/description.
