Ford instruments fix?

I mean REALLY, what can take so long??? Either take care of the problem or tell us too bad so sad nothing coming. In the scope of big business how much can this possibly cost Autometer?

At the risk of presenting a different/unpopular perspective, we all may wish to consider that this is an OEM 'fix', rather than an aftermarket one. I don't have any direct insight into the specifics on the guages, but if I were Ford, and I decided I was going to offer a fix, I'd make damn sure it worked. That does require some validation (time and $$) on top of any re-tooling etc. Again, just a perspective.

We have a rev limiter? lol. At what rpm does that work?

It's about 6500 in the stock tune. Won't save you on a downshift, only going up with throttle.

No problem with out a tach, did all the time at Nola with out one.

Now have speedhuts. Just fine for now. If a real fix ever happens? I'll buy them and swap back. This car is amazing, every time I drive it makes me happy even when I was missing gauges ....

Kendall, what do you know that DBK doesn't?

Frank I am sure you understand that what you know isn't always told to the public. Sometimes it can get people up in a hissy.

+1

Kendall talked to the boss at Autometer at SEMA and was told because of manufacturing reasons they won't be produced until August. That's all there is to it. As before, the gauges will be available directly through Autometer, not Ford, and will be available at a much lower price than the current service parts. If you want to know what's up with the production date, that would be a question for Autometer.

Interesting, as Autometer has NOT been a direct source for the end user in the past.

I had previously recommended to some of my local customers - one with 5 bad gauges and 500 miles on the odometer, to wait for the new gauges. This is no longer my advice. My recommendation is to roll the dice with the currently available gauges, replace the battery with something other than Optima, keep the battery on a tender, wait a moment after turning the key to "on" and pressing the start button, and, oh yeah, touch your left ear lobe then the tip of your nose before pressing the start button.

I also bow once, and offer a prayer to the God of Electricity for additional protection.

I always wait till the odometer comes on. Seems like a good amount of time for everything to settle down. Not sure this helps, but don't think it hurts...

Makes we wonder that if they're coming direct from Autometer then they have the option (or requirement from Ford?) for making an artwork change on the face, like putting their logo somewhere, etc. to distinguish them as non-OEM. I hope for all of us concours-correct types that they can keep the visible part of the gage identical to the OEM.

Is it poor form to put one of these on and call it a day? :winkcars_and_driving_red_line_with_tachometer_sticker-rc32a22a69f9b4290a080e2873250d377_v9waf_8byvr_.jpg

Good point. I don't think you have to be a concours-type to not want company logos on your OEM replacements. That would be horrible to have owners wait this long for a fix only to put a branded product up as the solution.

And some reverse biased diodes across the coils of the air motors

Just hope Ford gets the OEM replacements ASAP. Want them to look the same as our stocks.

Once again, Ford is not getting anything. When the new gauges are available, owners will be able to get them directly from AutoMeter, not Ford. I would be confident that the gauges - from the exterior, are identical to the gauges we have today.

No more air motors in the new gauges.....

I think a "Notification" list or communication to all of us who are Gauge Challenged would be great! That is, if and when they become available......
DBK - Kendall ?

Trust me, the millisecond the gauges are actually available, I will notify the entire website. :lol
