The road to Tortilla Flat was a roller coaster. The road beyond was bananas.

The locals from Tortilla Flat were so nice. Ryan (AKA Stubby) graciously removed that huge knife,
on his backside, his equally large key chain, and a flashlight before getting a hot lap to the
end of the road and back.

Full hustle. Not that it matters much people people always seem to ask…. High 130’s was the
norm before the chicane for me. Reckon the FFGs were seeing 140’s if they bothered to look.


Privileged: On track with all 5 Heritage Series NFGTs and an MKII (98 is behind).

Seeing P1075 at the track was a great surprise and an over-the-top moment at an already stellar Rally. The Real Deal…..

I have yet to really get into the details / history of the Le Mans winning GT40s. Are you saying that the P1075 car that was at the Rally is the actual Le Mans winning GT40? ... in 68 and 69? If so, who owns it? And do you have an idea of its current value?

Yes, that was the actual 1968/1969 Le Mans winning GT. Rob Walton (son of Walmart founder Sam Walton) owns it. I’m not sure how to even put a value on it, but it must be north of $40m.

There are some great books on the car, including Ray Hutton’s Autobiography of 1075. It was an amazing feat for this car to achieve consecutive victories at Le Mans, particularly since it was largely obsolete at the time. The FIA restricted engine displacement after the Mk IV GT40 won in 1967 with the 427. Ford was done with a factory racing effort, so John Wyer campaigned the old small block Mk I. Although it was antiquated, it was well sorted and reliable.

I took this pic at Mile 211 to coincide with my plate. Raj got a chuckle when he saw it and then proceeded to tell me that Multimatic’s DSSV shocks also go to 11! Apparently Larry is a Spinal Tap fan too!
