So, you're driving along in your semi-new GT/Lambo/Ferrari and you start hearing slight grinding noises that are eventually diagnosed to be coming from your AC Compressor. Yikes! Hold onto your wallet... what do you think it would cost to fix the problem using only genuine OEM parts? I can only imagine on the F-car or the Lambo. At least 4-digits, I'm sure.
Shortly after we delivered Apollo's car back after the TT install, Terry began to hear an occasional grind/screech sound. Of course, it would never do it when he was trying to show me or Ryan. We did look over the TT components but couldn't find anything amiss. We had the chance to have the car in last weekend for a routine oil change (following the Mojave mile and in preparation for the Texas mile), and Ryan fired up the car while on the lift and with no belly pans. He noticed that the AC compressor clutch was hanging up and occasionally spinning/screeching even when it cycled off. Looking to the manual, there is supposed to be a .014-.028 gap between the clutch and the pulley. Terry's was pretty easy to measure at .0000 (LOL). Time for a new AC clutch and proper adjustment. With the new clutch in hand on Thursday evening after work, I spoke to Terry on the phone and told him that we were going to work on it that night. I'm a moron business man because ~9 minutes later I phoned Terry to tell him that we were all done.... THEN I thought about how the heck I could charge him a gazillion hours of labor. Damn telephones.
The bottom line is that the new OEM clutch from Ford was $44 and to remove the old, install and shim the new one..... takes about 9 minutes. Couldn't fairly charge a dime for labor.
Damn Ford's.... I'm gonna quit this crap and go into the Ferrari maintenance business. Probably could have put some food on the table with F-car repair bill!!
It's all good. Love these cars. The only thing better is the owners!!
