a gt sold on sat at mechum for $510k and I also think another one sold for $310k
The 510K was the heritage I believe. I also posted about another one and other members have posted about a few others. I'll ask one of my assistants on Monday or Tuesday to pull a bunch of results together. I know I was tracking a whole lot of Ferrari and M-B vehicles.
Watched Gooding after Mecum. Mecum is a circus. One auctioneer went through his entire shift and only one or two cars sold. Gooding was classy. No bibbitybibbitybibbity auctioneer. Just a cool Brit who spoke English and moved all but a few cars. At one point...it may have been the Ferrari 250 when the bidding was in the millions...he told the bidders he would only accept bids in minimum quarter million increments, because he didn't want to take all night to sell one car.
Each auction house has it's own style. I guess Barrett-Jackson gets the most critique over all. Mecum is more like a numbers game because you will notice a larger amount of cars being presented compared to Gooding & Co and also Bonhams and RM Auctions. After watching Mecum its like why is the Gooding auction so slow, but they take great care in the way they handle things. They know the reserve on the few that did not sell and will not haggle with the owners on camera about splitting costs and dropping the reserve. One auctioneer (Gooding)did mention the bidding was close and probably a deal will be made on one car after the bidding was stopped. RM last night had their own style also I just think because it's Monterey the cars get more attention in some way.
Gooding will be on tonight to finish their lot of cars something after 6PM Pacific if you want to watch. They finished with the Jolly and should start with lot # 101
They still have a few interesting ones including a 260 & 289 Cobra and a gorgeous red GT 40 Mk1
