While always trying to maintain the balance of good dad and cool dad, I think I found a happy medium while trying to find the perfect first car for my eldest daughter. My criteria were:
1) A standard transmission for keeping the hands off the phone, keeping “friends” from driving, and opening up a multitude of vehicle choices down the road.
2) Something modern with safety equipment and reliability.
3) A car that doesn’t scream entitlement.
4) Something fun that she’ll look back on with fond memories.
Being the Ford guy that I am led me to the Ford Focus ST. While there are many to choose from on the secondary market, most are base models. After searching the country for a while now, I was fortunate enough to find this 1 owner ST with the ST3 package still under factory warranty! So we set off on our adventure to go pick up “Steve the standard.” My plans are to teach her how to service it as well. We’ll see how it goes!
